Airports bearing no resemblance to sim airports

This doesn't happen often, but it's done so more than once. I'll be at an airport, and comparing that to the one displayed on LNM, things just aren't the same: runways are marked different, taxiways and parking is different, etc. For instance, Patuxent River NAS.

Is this attributable to the specific flight sim? Or something else?

This can happen for MSFS airports which are locked down with a DRM scheme. LNM cannot read these and shows the stock airport. See here in the FAQ for other reasons: https://albar965.github.io/littlenavmap-faq.html#no-airport-msfs

LNM should show the correct layout for all other simulators.

Reload the scenery library after adding add-on airports and make sure that you do not use the "Navigraph only" mode in the scenery library menu.
