March 16, 20215 yr I'm finally going to replace my old 4790K and GTX1070. I know about the shortages but want to get in line. My choice has come down to either the AMD5900X or (when released later this month) the Intel 11900K for a CPU. My choice for video card has been narrowed down to either the AMD RX6800XT and the nVidia RTX3080. The large amount of VRAM in the Radeon pushes me in that direction as I think it won't be long before 10GB isn't enough. There may be a 3080Ti coming about mid-April (if the strong rumors are correct) which may be worth waiting for as I have had nVidia cards for a long time. I've had the money burning hole in my pocket for the past year (we caught Covid about a year ago today) and want to pull the plug finally. MSFS is not ready for prime time yet as it is not well optimized, and some important things still don't work. So, it's not like I can't wait another few months for the 11900K and/or the 3080T while Asobo continues to fix stuff. What would you do? March 16, 20215 yr Commercial Member At this time, the easiest way to get a new CPU and GPU, is to buy a branded prebuilt desktop. Since 1987, when I bought my first PC ( Epson AX 286 ), that was the first and the last time I ever bought a branded Desktop, since I always assembled it myself. But now, due to the craze of the combined Covid+Bitcoin hardware shortage, to update my aging i7-6700 and get a new GPU, the only sane choice ( other than paying extortionate prices ), was to buy the top of the line HP Omen 30L, with 10900k and RTX 3090, 1TB SSD + 2TB HDD, 32 GB-3200 DDR4, for the equivalent of about 3600$ here in Switzerland. Funny how in the US ( Amazon ), it costs about the same, but with a 3080 instead... Umberto Colapicchioni http://www.fsdreamteam.com FSDT on Facebook
March 16, 20215 yr Author Right - I will get a branded one as they seem to be getting parts better than I can get them myself. Rick Abshier 5900X | RTX 5070 Ti OC| 64 GB@3600 | India Pale Ale
