XPlane11 Partial Panel

Featured Replies

Hi all - I'm surprised I couldn't find anything on this... thought someone in here must have done it.

I'm trying to practice partial panel and looking for a plugin that can "inop" certain instruments. I know I can get some of this in the Failures settings, but was looking more of a "postit over the dial" type plugin where I can slap one over any given instrument on the panel (I can't do real postits as I use a head tracker).

Any ideas?  Thanks

Hi,

the obvious answer was given by yourself - failing the corresponding instrument.

If you want to "remove" the instrument from the cockpit you would have to learn the inner workings of aircraft authoring to modify the cockpit. There is no dedicated functionality to cover up an instrument in X-Plane, nor do I know of a plugin that does that.

Cheers, Jan

Also, Jan correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that having instruments covered or labeled, makes the practice easier compared to having an actual failed instrument which you must constantly remember to ignore (as would happen in RL). 🙂

Absolutely correct - the worst instrument to have failed is the artificial horizon - since you are trained to reference it every second while in instrument conditions, it takes a lot of effort to disregard a tilted artificial horizon. In a real aircraft I would definitely try to cover it up (dim it) in some way to force myself to disregard it.

If an instrument fails completely you often get a warning flag or message, that makes it easier. The most difficult failures (to detect and deal with) are the subtle ones.
