I am kicking around upgrading my Vega 64 to the 6700XT, mainly for the 12gig of video ram vs 8gig. I am upgrading from the 2700x cpu to a 5800x when the chip arrives in the next couple of days. Right now, with the 2700x and the Vega I am seeing around 85-90% usage of video ram, sometimes even higher. CPU and GPU are fairly balanced. With the 5800x that is going to be way more GPU limited. I run MSFS in 1440P with a mix of High and Ultra with good results. I am also not looking to go over $1,000.00 to upgrade. I can get the 6700 for around $900.00 while it looks like I can sell the Vega for around $500.00.

Just asking what you guys think, is it worth it?

Changed my mind and picked up a 6800XT instead, go big or go broke as they say.

When I retired 2 years ago I built the current system, 2700x and Vega 64, and said I wouldn't upgrade again. But here we are. Now with the 5800x and 6800XT I say again. This is my LAST upgrade.

Just a warning to people looking at this high end of a card. It uses Pcie 4.0 so make sure your motherboard has a 4.0 slot. My existing Asus Strix x470 board only has 2.0. What's another 200.00 for an X570 board with 4.0.

I finally decided to get the 6800XT Black. Since that card is pcie 4 and my existing m/b only supports pcie 2, I ordered a new m/b with the 570 chipset. Unfortunately I didn't pay close enough attention to what I was ordering. I just clicked on the Asus ROG Strix Gaming, but the "I" version instead of the "E", like my 470 version that I have. It came yesterday and was a Mini ATX and had no pcie slots other than the one for the gpu. OOPS. So that is heading back to Newegg and the correct model is on the way.

Now to decide if I want to put the 6800XT in my current system or just wait until next week for the new board to get here. I am going to wait for the new board to put in the 5800x as I am changing the cpu cooling to a Corsair h2o system when I change the cpu. I see no reason to waste the paste for just a week. I hope it is just a week, as I am having some hand surgery on the day the m/b is supposed to arrive. But it is on my left hand and I am right handed so shouildn't be to much of a problem.
