AAO + Behringer Knobs

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm trying to use the behringer x-touch with AAO in the CJ4. Ive downloaded a template (WT_CJ4_INDEP_210514) from the WT discord site.

The problem is .. When turning a knob (height for instance) clockwise ie increment,  AAO starts sending seemingly random up and down events, such as

AP_ALT_VAR_INC_100

AP_ALT_VAR_INC_1000

AP_ALT_VAR_INC_1000

then (I'm still turning clockwise)

AP_ALT_VAR_DEC_1000

AP_ALT_VAR_DEC_1000

AP_ALT_VAR_INC_1000

AP_ALT_VAR_DEC_1000

etc (cant see a pattern)

What is going on here

thanks

PS.  How would i know when a new version of AAO comes out ??

Have you contacted the author of the profile? Is it compatible with your AAO version?

New versions are announced in this forum, the support thread in the official MSFS forum, and in the News section on the Lorby-SI.com website. Simmarket customers should also get an email from the shop when a new version has been deployed. Latest released version number is in the sticky thread at the top if this subforum.

The template was published on 18/05, freeware/shareware there is no update.  Version  compatible??  How would i know, there is nothing in the template about AAO version. It apparently loaded OK.

The author of the profile is the only one who knows. You have to ask him, what AAO version he made the template for and if he has tested it with the one that you have.

Lorby-SI cannot provide support for profiles that other people make, sorry.

OK, I've dumped that template but I'm still having problems

Starting from a clean sheet,  I'v assigned AP_ALT_VAR_INC and AP_ALT_VAR_DEC to TURN _RIGHT and TURN_LEFT of 1 of the knobs. Ive put those details in thru the assign button dialog. And nothing happens in the sym when i twist that knob

Did you set a proper value? AP_ALT_VAR_xxx require values of 100 or 1000. Spin the mouse wheel over the little box to the right of the assigned event. Spin over the left half for big changes and the right half for small changes.

Also, make sure that the plane that you are doing this with actually reacts to those events. A great many of them just disregard the K - Events (Asobo calls them "legacy" in the documentation) and rely on LVars or HVars instead.

Yes I assigned a value of 100 to both and this is the cj4.

Just testing, I assigned those 2 AP_ALT_xxx functions to 2 of the push buttons and that appears to work fine. It also appears to have brought the knob to life although that it is still exhibiting the sometimes up sometimes down problem as I continue turning clockwise

Sorry, I've never heard of anything like this before. Do you have any other (controller) software running alongside AAO that might interfere?

This sounds more like a problem with the device itself. But I am not aware that you can configure the rotary encoders on an X-Touch incorrectly (which is possible to do with other MIDI devices). AAO expects the encoders to travel through the entire velocity range (0 - 127). But on some devices it is possible for example to configure them to only send 63-64-65. In that case an entirely different approach must be taken in AAO (using scripting).

Did this work with the DEMO version?

Didnt try the demo version. Bought AAO at the same time that i bought the behringer.

Youve reminded me that the x-touch mini comes with an editor to change its functionality.  Do you know whether it has to be changed from factory/shipping default ??

Anyway. When you just bought the Behringer, it is most likely in the default configuration, and that should be fine. Did you try a default plane too? Just to make sure that it isn't the WT mod that is causing the trouble? MIDI is an event based protocol, there is no "noise", unless the X-Touch creates it. But as I said - never heard of that before.

btw. I think that with some of the profiles/templates that you download, the authors provide Behringer setup files too.

Please send an email with your proof of purchase (order number and shop) to the address that is on the last page of the users manual. A few screenshots of what the malfunctioning AAO assignment looks like would be nice too.
