Showing Flightplans in MDF

Featured Replies

I am having problems sometimes being able to consistently load LNM flight plans into MSFS2020.

IFR – Not necessarily a question but just an observation - I prepare the flight plan in LNM and save it, then save it to MSFS2020. I load this flightplan in MSFS into a TBM and it shows in the MDF window. I can then continue the flight successfully on autopilot.

However if I modify this flight plan and save to MSFS2020, overwriting my previous flight plan, it will not show in the MDF panel of the TBM.  But…. if I delete the flight plan in MSFS2020, then resave the LNM flight plan into MSFS2020 then it shows as noted above. Strange?

VFR – Some questions – I prepare the VFR flight plan in LNM and save it, then save it to MSFS2020. I load this VFR flightplan in MSFS into a TBM but it does not show in the MDF window. Why?

Curious - if you are flyingVFR, why would you want to create an electronic flightplan?

And am I correct that the waypoints I create in LNM are electronic coordinated locations in space that the autopilot will follow on the NAV setting?

MSFS flight plan loading is a mess and it did not get better with all the releases. I spend a lot of time figuring out what plans MSFS accepts. No idea what else to do than writing tickets for Asobo. Latest LNM 2.6.15 contains a few fixes to minmize issues.

MSFS certainly does not accept plans with airways and/or procedures when saving a plan as VFR. Of course, using airways or procedures with VFR does not make sense but LNM gives the freedom. No need to place artificial limitations on it.

Keep this chapter from the LNM user manual in mind to minimize issues:

Quote
  • If you use the Navigraph update for MSFS: Update the Little Navmap database with the FMS Data Manager as well to keep the program in sync with the MSFS scenery library. Use the scenery mode Use Navigraph for Navaids and Procedures in the menu Scenery Library to get access to all procedures in Little Navmap. This is the default.

Also check the selection in menu Scenery Library -> Airspace Libraries. Select Navigraph and uncheck Simulator there.

  • If you do not use the Navigraph update for MSFS: Use the scenery mode Do not use Navigraph Database in the menu Scenery Library to avoid issues with missing or changed navaids.

The selection in menu Scenery Library -> Airspace Libraries should have Simulator checked. Uncheck Navigraph there.

See Navigation Databases and FSX, Prepar3D and MSFS Airspaces for more background information on these settings.

See appendix Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 for information about MSFS limitations and issues.

I cannot answer this. I can have a look at the PLN and check for obvious issues if you post the flight plan PLN file (use https://wetransfer.com/, for example).

Follow the lines and waypoints to POIs, for example. There are plenty of reasons.

Yes, if it was loaded correctly. The autopilot should follow the plan in NAV mode. But there are apparently still issues with with MSFS autopilots which turn 180 degree before approaches, for example.

The waypoints are saved with coordinates and name to provide some redundancy. The sim can at least add a position if a waypoint was not found by name.

Alex, thx for your prompt and informative reply - I have de-activated NaviGraph settings as you recommend,  I hope the link works to my VFR flghtplan.

Hi Nigel,

thank you for the plan. I installed the latest SP into MSFS today. 120 GB? I don't know what they are doing there.🙄

Your flight plan looks correct and it is loading into MSFS fine. Navlog and map are ok. The one enroute airport is recognized.

But what happens after that with the GPS is beyond my knowledge. This is nothing I can fix.
