How to test if 4K is possible in MSFS?

If I set MSFS to render 4k, but display in 2k, native of my current monitor, will it give good indication on how performance will be in true 4k?

Need to know before I invest in 4k monitor.

I got AMD 5600x CPU, and MSI 6800 XT GPU, and 32Gb ram.

Yeah. You should be good to go. 
Especially after the last update. 
i run MSFS in 4K everything on Ultra and I get 45-60 FPS with the 3080ti. 
 

if you dial back some things you should easily get 30-45 FPS.
