Reality XP GTN750 different database from Garmin Trainer

Featured Replies

Hopefully someone can help.

I have a brand new PC with a fresh install of XPlane 11 to which I wanted to add the Reality XP GTN750, as I've purchased a RealSim GTN750.

Previously, I had installed the Garmin Trainer App, and updated the database to the latest cycle (I have a fully paid for Garmin subscription).

I downloaded Reality XP GTN750 for XPlane 11 today.  When I installed it, it did NOT install Garmin Trainer (as it could see it was already installed) but when I opened the GTN750 in XPlane, it showed NO nav database. I checked Garmin Trainer and confirmed that the database was present and current. Checked XPlane, no database.

I then uninstalled the Garmin Trainer, and restarted the PC. I reinstalled Reality XP GTN750, and (as expected) it downloaded and installed the Garmin Trainer. I confirmed the Trainer and the GTN750 in XPlane both showed the same Nav database.  So far so good.

I manually updated the database in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Databases to the latest cycle.  Checked it in Garmin Trainer - all good. Ran X-Plane, and the Garmin shows the old cycle nav database.

My guess is that the RealityXP is using a different database location? How can I make it point to the same database as the Garmin Trainer?

Any help much appreciated.

Hi,

If you've replaced the database files installed with the trainer with your own, I fail to understand how the trainer would pick up older files.

Newer GTN trainers are installing the db file in:
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases

Older GTN trainers were installing the db files in:
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GTN Trainer Data\DB

Are you sure you don't have two different locations?

Are you using the custom RXP GTN Environment Variables to redirect the DB folder/files?

Hi Jean-Luc - thanks for the prompt reply.

Only C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases exists, and I haven't changed any environment variables.

However, your reply prompted me to do dig a little deeper.

In the Garmin Trainer, if I select Rotorcraft, I get our modified database (AIRAC 2109). If I select Single-Engine Piston, I get the old database (AIRAC 2004).  That tells me that GT has multiple versions in each database, and that I only modified the rotorcraft version.

I then looked more closely at the Device Options in RealityXP, and found that if I changed it to "Americas Rotorcraft (Jepp)" instead of "Worldwide (Jeppesen)" I got our modified database in XPlane.

Problem solved - many thanks!

Chris
