This is such a basic question. For the years I’ve been using X plane I’ve always used a USB 3.0 powered hub  connected to USB 3.0 hub port  for all of my sim controllers. But now that I am looking at adding some Arduino controllers for additional hardware I’d like to look more closely into the use of USB 2.0 vs 3.0 or even 3.1.

Which ports should / could be used for each of my devices…. 2.0 or 3.0?

Here are the 7 devices I currently have

Fulcrum One Yoke, Slaw Rudder pedals, Saitek throttle quadrant, Saitek trim wheel, DesktopAviator flap lever, RealsimGNS530 and Saitek Switch panel.

Future plans include a few DIY switches to be controlled by an Arduino or LeoBodnar controller and then a few components from Flight Illusion using their dedicated controller.

I’ve read that USB 2.0 is fine for most items. Is that true for all of my current controllers or should some of them be dedicated to USB 3.0?

depends on the device...  If they are USB 2.0 then going into a 3.0 port has no benifit...  However most devices are compatible and the the USB 3.0 will run them when they are 2.0....  However some devices (Logitech FIP devices ...) have drivers that have not been updated and will lock up and crash when on USB 3.0...

However for those what works is to use a newer Powered USB 2.0 HUB that you plug into the USB 3.0 Ports...
