Smoothest Windows Migration ever...

Featured Replies

So my company sent me the dreaded "laptop refresh" email followed by a new laptop.  I typically dread this process however like MSFS my real world and work world is becoming more and more cloud dependent.  So my company instructs me to put both devices on the corporate wifi (we provide corporate wifi for work from home users to provide in office experience without VPN) click the folders I want to migrate, put both laptops on the network and leave them be.  They are taking everything off my old laptop migrating it to cloud then pushing it to my new laptop.  I was pretty skeptical but an hour later I have two laptops next to each other and they appear identical.  It even re-installed my applications and restored their data.  68 gigs worth of data.

All of this using the Data Migration Assistant (not sure if that's 3rd party) and OneDrive.

So while I bemoan the cloud sometimes and it's bandwidth requirements etc I can't believe how it simplified this process.  No cables, no comm ports, just point, click,. wait, pick back up where I left off an hour later.  If I can get my personal machines to this state I will never fear a system migration again!

I guess this "cloud" thing has some benefits after all.

Have a Wonderful Day
