G1000NXi Updating Flight Plan Question

Question for those with G1000 experience:

While in a holding pattern following a missed approach

 -- how do I update the NXi flight plan in order to fly to an alternate airport and shoot an approach there?

-- can I enter the necessary updates while the AP continues to fly the holding pattern?
