I made what for me personally was a mistake of installing Reshade after someone here in the forum suggested it.

Apparently, reshade does NOT even have an uninstall feature.

According to various forum threads at different websites all over the internet, instructions (all of which were very different) for removing reshade is about a long multi step process including manually removing lots of .dll files. These files are not in one easy to find special folder, they are in your game folder and subfolders (I assume in my case, deep in the MSFS folders somewhere). One user at another forum who was running Pr3pared reported having to remove Pr3pared from their computer and then reinstalling and re configuring it. It took hours for him. All of that just to get Reshade off his computer and out of his life.

I can't play MSFS right now. Huge reshade screens pop up over the scenery and menus, and I don't see any icon to make them disappear. But then I can't see much of anything inside those dark ugly reshade windows, it's too dark themed even be readable. What a mess!

This link is a more up to date method of removing reshade. And it did the uninstall trick in five minutes of work, instead of using longer removal instructions from a few years ago.

If only reshade used a proper installer that accessed the registry, then uninstalling would have been a snap. But reshade installs instead by throwing out .dll files and creating subfolders in your game executable folder. Which you have to manually remove, taking care to no not remove something that needs to remain. In my case I removed all the files and folders dated within the last day and reshade was gone and MSFS still worked.
