Virtual Cockpit Problem

Featured Replies

I have to say, with the switch to FSX from FS9, I also switched to flying in the Virtual Cockpit mode, and just loving it. I do have a few small problems in which I am having to sorta "deal with it", and wondering if there's a way to fix or improve in any way, without spending a ton of money for that trackIR system. One:While trying to rotate the heading bug or VSI selector bug, or localizer knobs, oh and altimiter setting button, the "mouse hand" flashes so fast that I cannot get the knobs to rotate but a few clicks. Zooming or changing seat position doesn't seem to help at all. I do have head latency on, and don't really want to remove that, even though that makes it more difficult. I don't know if that affects the flashing of the hand problem. I actually like the trouble of rotating those knobs in turbulence, sorta makes it a little more realistic like you have a little trouble getting your hand on the knob, even though that may be exagurated. Two:I have 2 monitors. I have tried to open a new window of the cockpit view and move it to my second monitor, for a left seat view of the forward right view, so that I may see the rest of my instruments. Two things happen. First, it locks up FSX with a full window on my second monitor. I'm hoping a larger dual core processor might fix that. This might even be the cause of, second, I don't have any functions on that second view. I can't switch a radio or pull a lever. So what I have been doing is opening up popup windows from the 2d panel and sliding them over to the second monitor, then switch to the VC. This gives me functionality, but the view is not exactly realistic. And with saving flights, it won't remember that these views or windows are on that monitor, so I have to do this with every flight. I'm wondering if there's anything I could do differently to fix this.Another question I just figured I would throw in, do you remember that flight you load as default that puts you in the last situation you were in when you exit? I don't recall the name of the flight, and can't find that in FSX. I liked that function, so it saves where you are, your fuel, etc. Thanks guys for your input.

I don't recall the>name of the flight, and can't find that in FSX. I liked that>function, so it saves where you are, your fuel, etc.I always save the flight manually before I quit (usually when I'm parked and have the cockpit cold and dark) and check the 'Use as default' option. This way the next time you start up FS X you are where you left it (exact same place, fuels, radio's, etc: just as it was).I always start up with the menu and plan the next flight and change the weather if I want to. I do however not change the fuel, because I want to leave that as it is, which forces me to go to the tank station every now and then. When I save the flightplan I do NOT allow FS X to move the plane to the airfield of the plan: this way I can continue EXACTLY were I left the session before. So I do not have to enter a parkingspot or gate in the flightplan: I just let it choose the active runway because I still start off where I parked my plane.

If your mouse has a wheel, you can use that to adjust knobs on the dashboard. I find that beats clicking on the knobs.Jeff ShylukAvsim Product Reviewer

Well, I should make a recording of this patter. I can't talk about your new view in the second monitor but it is possible to get the extra intrument views to stick to the second monitor. As a matter of interest it is the same as FS9. So here's what to do:Go to windows mode with the main screen open.Display your extra instruments and transfer them to the second monitor.Resize and organise the second monitor instrument display to your liking.Save the flight.Switch to full screen view and display the intrument screens if they are not showing but they should be.Organise them onto the second monitor. When everything is to your liking SWITCH BACK TO WINDOWS MODE AND RESAVE THE FLIGHT - very important as this records the second monitor instrument positions for full screen. End the flight in Windows mode. When you reload the flight for the next session switch from windows to full screen and your extra intruments should be on the second monitor as you had them. I have used this technique and it works on my machine.John
