May 11, 200719 yr Actually I was thinking of something really simple that wouldn't even need to run at the same time as the simulator. It could just be a standalone program that would read in a .pln file and download the required tiles to the scenery folder, so that when you next ran the sim they'd be there waiting for you. No need for more than one thread.Probably not quite as user friendly as a true simulator add-on, but certainly good enough for me. :)I haven't read the Acme (or should that be gAcme?) terms of service, but given that TileProxy, at least in its current form, seems to permanently store the downloaded tiles in its cache, would it actually make any difference if you weren't flying at the same time as downloading?
May 11, 200719 yr Well I had intended to add automated purging to the caches, but I didn't get it done in time. What you're referring to is "time shifting" of scenery. Hmm. Interesting concept. A Tivo for landscape. Fair use, but only if you don't skip the ads ;)
May 11, 200719 yr There's another interesting concept - instead of subscription-based scenery, why not ad-supported scenery?Aerobatics around a 500 foot Macdonald's sign might actually be kind of fun. :D
May 12, 200719 yr Christian, Like others I'm amazed at what you have been doing. I don't have FSX installed anymore, but after following all the threads related to Tile Proxy, I've changed my mind. I have a 64bit AMD X64 3000 machine with a Radeon X800 w/256MB. FSX runs fairly well with moderate autogen too. The images from Tile Proxy so far are stunning, so I'll be reinstalling FSX, installing Tile Proxy, and sending you any observations on running with 64 bit. Keeping my fingers crossed it will work on this rig. Outstanding concept here!Best, Rob ARedding, CA
May 12, 200719 yr Good luck! It only takes about 20 Gig of hard drive space (assuming you also put Windows XP on to that partition). You can save a lot of space by downscaling the autogen and ground textures using some scripts that others have provided for free - in particular as TileProxy doesn't need these textures much ;)Christian
May 12, 200719 yr Looks like you are not the only one tapping into the GE resources Christian. Take a look at http://www.automotoportal.com/article/Volk...vigation_system

May 12, 200719 yr That is really quite nice. Wish I had had that back when I was actively flying. Guess we should not hijack this thread. Feel free to PM or email me if you wish. While I am no longer flying I have friends that do. I will send your site to them.
