Anyone using Readyboost with FSX in Vista ?

Featured Replies

I was getting frequent CTDs - when changing planes - or alt-switching out of the game - or even sometimes just completely randomly.Symptom was being dumped to the desktop - no error message- almost like FSX had never been running.Since I forgot to replug in my Flash drive for Readyboost I haven't been getting any.Is it possible they are related or placebo ?Anyone running Readyboost + Vista successfully ?thanks, Mark.

SOme flash drives are not suited for Readyboost, same as some USB sticks. I'd start by checking that out first.Allcott

I am with no problems. 2 Gig memory and about the same readyboost USB

thanks guys - mine is a Kingston "Readyboost" 2 gig stick.has Readyboost on the side of it :(Mark.

Well, run SiSoft Sandra flash memory test to ensure it isn't the drive. You have to work your way UP the system, not just blame the software. Frankly, if there was a memory leak in FSX, we'd have heard all about it by now.I presume a default installation of FSX?Allcott

not blaming the software- just checking there wasn't a specific issue with ready-boost + FSX.will do some more experimentation.Default FSX installation + VFR South UK scenery - but was doing CTDs before installation of that.Interestingly I never had any CTDs in XP, OR Vista RC1/RC2 with FSX.but when I moved to Vista Home Premium OEM (ie I bought it) - I've been having these FSX CTDs :(perhaps its the latest ATI driver thats causing it I don't know really -there are too many variables.I'll run for another few days without readyboost (as I was getting a CTD every 1 hour or so) - and then if no CTDs I'll retry Readyboost and see what happens.Hardware part of System is stable - ran 9 hours of Orthos overnight - no errors.Mark.

I don't know of any issue with ReadyBoost and FSX. I have a 1 gig stick in use with ReadyBoost in Vista x64. I have had maybe 2-3 CTD with no errors in 4.5 months. Usually, this happens when I max out all the sliders for the #### of it, so I don't think its ReadyBoost that is causing my rare CTD.
