May 15, 200719 yr Anybody want to sway me one way or another? For the most part I would use the scenery as an area to practice manouvers around, and just fly around at low altitude in general taking in the scenery.Helgoland looks to be much smaller, but then again I do not know how big Monaco is. Is it much larger? I don't do choppers, so the runways at Helgoland would be useful, but if Monaco gives me a much larger land mass, like 2x-3x bigger, I might want to go with that one, but then again, I always enjoy the challenge of landing over-sized aircraft on runways that are entirely too small.Got any input?
May 15, 200719 yr Hi Solar,First of all, you should do choppers. It's quite frustrating to fly them at first but once you get the hang of it they are so much fun. There are many fine turtorials, one of them by avsim's own Steve "Bear" Cartwright.http://www.avsim.com/pages/0604/heli/helitutorial.htm But to answer your question: Monaco is fantastic if you like helis, particularly since the landing pads are suspended over the water; Helgoland if you like GA aircraft (or risking your neck with oversized craft as you say) and to a lesser extent helis. Also Monaco is small, smaller than it appears in the screenshots, I think, although having boat traffic turned up high certainly adds to the port experience. What I mean is helgoland does not feel much smaller to me.
May 15, 200719 yr I realise it wasn't part of your original selection but if you are looking for a small high definition area to fly around, the MegaSceneryX version of Oahu in Hawaii is very good (http://www.megascenery.com/MegaSceneryXHawaii.htm). I think at $10 for the download version, it is very good value for money. This may be a little bigger than the type of area you are looking for but it does provide a few airports to fly between, some mountainous terrain and very good views.David
May 15, 200719 yr I have Monaco but not Helgoland. I think Helgoland would have been a better choice (among these two). Helgoland has a small airstrip atleast. There are no non photoscenery to distract.Monaco though very very nice, is distracting cause the detailed scenery is very small but the context scenery is default and it is kind of not very good. JMO. If you are not into choppers Monaco is not it.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 15, 200719 yr I have both and I am not impressed with Monaco.Im a heli guy and even with a scenery designer so I can add things, I found myself bored with Monaco. Also the fps take a hit with all the buildings.I really like Helgo and think you will enjoy it.
May 15, 200719 yr >Helgoland looks to be much smaller, but then again I do not>know how big Monaco is. Is it much larger? In terms of hard numbers, Helgoland is 4.2 square kilometers and I think Monaco is like 1.5 square kilometers (I know its three quarters of a square mile but I'm not sure what that is in kilometers).
