Tileproxy # files in Directory

Featured Replies

hi dont know if this is a problem but with TP is there anyway to specify subdirectories so you dont have a cache folder with 100,00's of files as i beilieve this affects windows performance when reading from such a directory.Maybe subdirectories based on lat/lon regions.

I don't really understand what you mean, but I guess you mean the cache folders ?The "World" (beta1) or "TileProxy Photoreal World" (beta2) folders are already divided in regions. Also you can always clean them up by using "cleanup.bat" in this folder. If you are talking about the cache folder :I created several caches in the "proxyuser.ini", e.g. when I want to fly in Europe, I use another cache folder then when I want to fly in the USA. This can be easy done by adding additional profiles in the ini file. Maybe this can be automated ?I had the same idea as you : browse a minimum of files in one folder.Of course, it helps also, if not more, if you defragment your hard disk often.Jan

I've thought about a different folder structure for the cache. But the fact is, even if I gave it the same structure as in the World folder, still most tiles would end up in exactly one subdirectory therein. After all, people tend to fly in very localized areas. So the only way to really distribute those files across many folders would be using a hash function.By the way, I think NTFS handles large numbers of files in a folder quite well. I haven't seen much performance degradation YET. But don't ever get the idea to open that folder in Windows Explorer. ;)
