May 20, 200719 yr ok this is my first post here. and i have a problem no one else seems to have, well except for one other person. and we're clueless to fix this.:-hmmm after installing sp1, there is no glass whatsoever in all the default airplanes and helicopter models. nothing in the main menu, nothing in VC, nada in spot mode, nothing!! x( i reinstalled fsx and sp1 three times already. i can see glass in fsx before installing sp1. i also have fs9 installed on the same laptop and i can see glass there too. sp1 runs great (thanks phil and team) except for missing glass which takes all the fun out of flying now. i posted here beforehttp://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index...howtopic=115512 and the other guy posted herehttp://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index...howtopic=115692and it seems no one knows how to fix this. :-hmmm i copied the original simobject/airplane folder into the after sp1 fsx folder, i erased the fsx config, i replaced the display config with the original one. nothing is working! any help would be greatly appreciated. heres a pic if that might help any: and many, many thanks in advance.
May 20, 200719 yr I had the same negative situation after installing FSX SP1.I have done nothing special with FSX or the SP1; the only thing i did was just reinstalling my videocard drivers...And the result was positive; glass back again!I hope it works for yoy too.RegardsBert
June 3, 200719 yr I still have this issue. I am wondering if anyone has any more suggestions,. I re installed the video drivers. It did not change anything. I would appreciate any help. Thanks,Earl
June 3, 200719 yr Look for newer updated drivers for whatever video card you have. OP reports in the other forum an Intel driver. I presume from that he means some kind of onboard integrated adapter as Intel don't make graphic cards. THAT will be the root cause of the problem.Allcott
June 3, 200719 yr Hi Allcott,Yeah, that's what I have also. Thing is I had glass before SP1 for sure, can't remember noticing whether I had glass right after SP1...Long story about why I have this particular computer and not very interesting....I am using Core Duo 925 D 3GHz, Vista, 1G RAM. Graphics chip set 946 Express. I have latest driver.Long story short:Yes, I"m amazed FSX works at all, much less considering there's no video card, it work quite well.I HAD glass textures before SP1. I also tried loading a POSKY 737, HJG 707 and several repaints of default aircraft before noticing I didn't have glass textures. The newer drivers may be the culprit. I had a crash while trying the 707. Vista "investigated" the cause and "found a solution" which turned out to be the new video drivers. After that was when I noticed no glass.Any ideas? Thanks,Earl
June 3, 200719 yr Well, with integrated video card you are well below the minimum specification for the sim, so apart from suggesting the obvious solution for goig back to older drivers, I can only suggest buying a proper video card! Dont know what SP1 has changed on display atributes relative to RTM, but you might find out more from the laptop manufacturers site than you will from here. It might need a driver revision, if they are willing to provide it.Allcott
June 4, 200719 yr Allcott,Thanks for the replies. I did go back to the old drivers last night. No dice. Still the same. So, I decided to uninstall everything. FSX and SP1. I deleted the directory, etc and re installed FSX without a hitch. No errors. No problem with registration. No problems with Microsoft. When I fired up FSX, there were the glass textures. Also, the low res texture problem I was having aren't there. My exterior plane textures, runway, taxiways and some buildings looked like they were in a shade or even at night while the sky, sun , etc are all mid day.I just thought you and other might like to know my results. I'm not sure now whether to reinstall SP1 or the new drivers. I'm also wondering what mission, aircraft did I install or what did I do to make this happen in the first place. I may never know! Thanks guys,Earl
June 4, 200719 yr I dont think you did anything. It is most likely the case that SP1 introduced the change as part of the packacge of fps improvements.Copy your FSX.cfg. Then install SP1, run the sim, exit then copy the FSX.cfg again. Open them both side-by-side and see what the difference is.It might be that the PerfBucket setting when the FSX.cfg was set up under SP1 didn't allow for Shader 2.0, even though the computer is capable of it and RTM allowed it. There might be a way to force it back on. But it's a long shotAllcott
June 5, 200719 yr I installed SP1 before I saw your last reply Allcott. But I had saved a copy of the cfg from before SP1. I compared it and found there was a difference in Procspeed setting. After SP1 this was set to 4689, Orig was 4533 so I changed it to that. Perf Bucket was 1 in both cases, but I tried 2. neither made any difference. I checked after I ran FSX, both were still set as shown, no change. Thanks for the suggestion. Please let me know if you think of anything else. Now I'm not sure if I want great graphics or smoother flying. I'm just glad I can even run FSX!Thanks again,Earl
