FSGenesis for FSX

Featured Replies

I was considering purchasing the FSGenesis mesh for FSX, but I would like to know if it has problems with airports. I had a beta mesh from them for FS9 and the way airports would have square cliffs around them really killed the experience in many places. Does this situation still exist with FSX?

I have this mesh and it does put airports on a plateu. Some people can't stand this but to me it's a small price to pay for a nice mesh.

Sigh. Seems like they should be able to develop a smoothing utility to blend the mesh with the airport.

MSFS airports since the beginning have to have absolutely flat terrain. FSX is no exception to this rule. There may be workarounds for "hand painted" sceneries, but for meshes that take into account large parts of the globe, you will be stuck with airports on plateaus or in trenches. Same goes for lakes. The good news is that talented folks are poring over the SRTM data and are making adjustments all the time. Other talented folks who are good at importing SRTM data into MSFS are getting better at it. Eventually, we expect either to see terrain meshes that more smoothly align to airports, or else airports that can sit on areas that are not perfectly flat, or both. Or "WorldBuilder", like for Company Of Heroes, if your gaming tastes are more violent. Real-time object placement is a reality for FSX, hopefuly, FS11 or beyond will get real-time mesh, texture, and landclass editors for users. I like it when developers include good, simple tools for users to play with the game maps and environments.

I just bought a Galaxy membership for Genesis mesh. I loaded up everything last weekend. There is a problem with airport elevation sometimes, but if you're a bush flyer, the terrain enhancement is so good you won't really care. At least I don't. With the FSX Genesis mesh, I had some wonderful flights. It was well worth the purchase.
