May 22, 200719 yr Hey,I tried installing new planes and repaints for aircraft on FSX today. But when I try to copy it into the folder I get the windows warning about access denied cannot copy please check if the drive is full or the folder protected and so on. Please tell me what to do. I can copy and past folders into the fsx folder itself, just not the simobjects. Please help!!Regardscpt viper
May 22, 200719 yr Please, somebody help! Somebody must know what causes this error when copying and pasting into the fs folder...
May 22, 200719 yr Running XP or Vista? If your'e running Vista I cannot help you. What I know about Vista is that if you don't know your way around UAC and other security arrangements in Vista, you might end up having trouble in one way or another. If your'e running WinXP I assume that you have checked the properties of your FSX folder (right button mouse click on the folder in Explorer) and made sure it isn't write protected. If it isn't write protected I'd recommend you to run an error check on the drive (right mouse click on your hard drive and select properties, then click the Tools tab).Hope this will help :-)Ulf B
May 22, 200719 yr XP pro, doesnt seem to say its protected though I dunno where in the properties it would.. Dunno what to do..
May 22, 200719 yr Well,Edited: Please apply the instructions to the SimObjects folder, not the FSX folder!!!! (Sorry about my mistake).Start your Explorer and go to your FSX folder, which defaults to your C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X. Right click on the folder name in Explorer. The properties window should open up. The following picture shows the properties window and what to check and what to do if the folder is write protected. I'm running a swedish version of XP, so I'm sorry if you cannot understand the labels and instructions. But I think it'll help you to identify what to look for and how to remove the write protection on that folder.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/172181.jpgIf you feel uncomfortable with this I'd recommend you to get help by somebody that are familiar with computers and WinXP.If the folder is write protected and you cannot remove the write protection, your'e not running XP with administrator privilegies. I'd then recommend you to make your user account member of the administrators group. You can use the WinXP help and guides to fix that one. Ask somebody you know to help you out.Ulf B :-)
May 22, 200719 yr I tried what you just told me mate, made it a read only thing and applied it to the folder only. I still cant paste anything into the folder! this is very wierd because it works on all other folders! I dunno what to do and I cant play this game without my special planes lol.. please help.
May 22, 200719 yr Have you read the PM I sent you?Have you tried to run an error check on the drive (CHKDSK)?In the Explorer, just point with the mouse on the drive in the folder tree and right click with mouse. Click on Properties in the menu. This should open up a properties window for the drive.Click on the second tab, Tools, and then the topmost button to run an error check on the drive. When you click the button a small dialog open up. Check the topmost checkbox to autmatically repair errors in the file system. If you have WinXP installed on the same drive, the error check will be executed when you reboot your pc.Maybe it helps. If it doesn't help I really don't know what to do next. I assume that you've checked that the folder that you wan't to copy to the SimObjects folder doesn't already exist (check the folder names). You're not running FSX at the same time when you try to copy? Am I running out of questions? ;-)Ulf B
May 22, 200719 yr Moderator >I tried what you just told me mate, made it a read only thing>and applied it to the folder only. You do NOT want to make it "Read Only!" That's the problem! You need to uncheck the "Read Only" box... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 23, 200719 yr Omg I called Microsoft and they dunno either. So everyone here can copy a downloaded texture and past it into their fsx simobjects aircraft folder np? I keep getting the waring to check if it is protected or in use and so forth.. please... help!
May 23, 200719 yr cpt viper,I'm sorry but I'm lost on this one. CHKDSK didn't help. You've set the SimObjects and Airplanes to a writeable state (that is unchecked the Read Only checkbox) and your disk is not full. And you reinstalled FSX. Beats me :-hmmm You'd better consult a hardware expert who could have a look on the problem.Ulf B
