FSUIPC axis calibrations still working after SP1?

Recommended Posts

(Forum Admin, this a software-centric troubleshooting request, not hardware. Please leave in the main FSX forum. Thanks)Does anyone else happen to use FSUIPC4 for some or all of their FSX axis calibrations since installing SP1? At some point (+/- a few days) around the time that I upgraded FSX to SP1 and upgraded to FSUIPC v4.10, I seemed to have lossed the ability to see devices and levers in the "axis assignments" tab of the FSUIPC4 GUI. What's more puzzling, I can still see buttons on the "buttons" tab of FSUIPC from these same CH controllers.I normally disable joysticks all-together within the FS Controls menu and soly rely on FSUIPC for assignments and calibrations. When I re-enable joysticks within the FS Controls menu, I can then see axis movement on the aircraft and within the FSUIPC Calibrations tab.Currently, this has Pete Dowson stumped as well and unfortunitly, he's leaving for vacation and won't be able to help me further for another 7 days. I also described to Pete, that FSUIPC3 in FS9 which is still installed, continues to see all CH axis just as they have for the past several years and the axis of these CH devices are seen normally in the Game Controller GUI in the Windows Control Panel as well. Unfortunitly, he informs me that FSUIPC4 for FSX uses directX "direct-input" unlike previous version of FSIUPC which did it differently. Please, if you use FSUIPC axis calibrations, fully or in-part, could you share your post-SP1 finding here? It will help decide how and what to troubleshoot next or re-install FSX and SP1 if I seem to have an isolated issue. Thanks for your help.

FSUIPC4 and FSX seem to work fine for me, although I haven't recalibrated the axes since I upgraded to SP1.

Thanks Tim. BTW, what operating system are you using? It just occured to me, that perhaps the combination of my Vista Ultimate OS, FSX-SP1, and FSUIPC4, is the reason for my axis woes in FSUIPC4. Pete said he has axis working with Vista Premium, SP1, and FSUIPC4. Could there be a difference between Premium and Ultimate in the way the DirectInput layer works with DirectX? What really really bothers me though is the fact that I can see buttons with FSUIPC4. It's gotta be something with SP1 and FSUIPC4. Thanks again for responding. I just sent you an e-mail request as well.

If anyone else, now or in the future, comes across this issue, the the formal discussion for this issue is on the FSUIPC/Pete Dowson forum here: http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?t=62324Also, if anyone is running FSX+SP1+FSUIPC4(registered), could you try a quick test and report your findings here or in the FSUIPC thread mentioned above? Please, this should only take a minute or two and would help us identify how widespread this issue is. So far, one other person has described the same issue. With joysticks enabled in FS, verify that you can see device and axis letters on the "Axis Assignemts" tab in FSUIPC4 v4.10+ (top middle of the page) and then cancel out of FSUIPC.Then, disable joysticks by unchecking "Enable Controllers" checkbox in the FS menu. Go back to FSUIPC "Axis Assignments" tab and see if you have lost device and axis letters in the same location. Also, the "Rescan" button on this same tab will probably grey-out as well. Cancel-out of FSUIPC4 and set your controller checkbox in FS back to the way you had it.Thank you so much for your valuable input.
