Crossing runways when taxi

Yesterday I was at New Orleans KMSY north of runway 11.  My taxi from ground was RWY  11 via G A E hold short of RWY 11 hold short of runway 11

I taxied G A and held short at RWY 11 to cross it.  I contacted ground with call sign saying holding short at rwy 11 at A.    ATC said contact tower for taxi instructions (a little odd)  When I did Tower said contact ground.  This was a loop back and forth.  So I crossed R11 and continued on echo on Ground Freq.

I contacted tower and was cleared for departure.  I did not have  the transmission log saving so that would have helped.  I will include a link to that next time   I am using the latest build but have seen this in the released version as well   

BTW, why does P2ATC say contact tower when moving to the runway   Usually I get to the runway, and then switch to tower without ground saying anything.   Even when in a plane that does not usually happen, but may it does sometimes.  I have the program set where the FO is not talking.  Is there a way to turn that off.
