ATC doesn't hear me after first contact

Featured Replies

I use P3Dv4.5 / PMDG 737 / native ATC

ATC response to my clearance request ist ok. But then ATC doesn't hear my confirmation any more (ATC:"did you hear me?").

(Response and actions from FO are ok.)

I  assume you are aware of your call-sign.

In P3D it varies from one livery to another. In MSFS, you must type it in "MSFS settings".

Also important with MSFS, the user interface for the simulator must be in English US.

This is required so that MCE can see the ATC option displayed in English, not German or French.

Please write down examples of messages you are trying to transmit. Sometimes, it happens that the ATC specific speech grammar doesn't cover perfectly good messages.

for example:

me: "Hannover clearance, Ryanair 198, with Information Oscar, request IFR clearance to Billund".

ATC: "Ryanair 198, cleared to Billund as filed, fly runway heading, climb and maintain 12000, departure frequency 119.6, squawk 3554"

me: "cleared as filed, fly runway heading, climb and maintain 12000, departure frequency 119.6, squawk 3554, Ryanair 198".

So far everything fine... but then

ATC: " 198, did you hear me?"

me: "cleared to Billund as filed, fly runway heading, climb and maintain 12000, departure frequency 119.6, squawk 3554, Ryanair 198".

ATC"198 please acknowledge"

End of communication....

Thanks

Since you were able to get the first message through, you can rule out things like accent, or proficiency with ATC phraseology.

Two things must happen before MCE selects an option from the MSFS menu.

1 - The ATC speech command has been recognized.

2 - At least one option in ATC menu must match the kind of request or acknowledgment you are making.

For instance, you may say anytime on ground "tower, Ryanair one niner eight standing by for takeoff" or "Frankfurt tower, Raynair one niner eight holding point two five left ready for takeoff" (or other variations), the speech will be recognized, but no menu selection will take place unless there is a line that shows like "Request takeoff clearance from XXXX".

What's more, the position of the intended selection dictates which line is selected, not "say this and key 1 will be sent"

I suspect your MSFS UI language isn't in English US.

For ATC support it is a requirement to set it to that language in order to ensure MCE reads the ATC menu in English, not German or French.

You can check this by asking co-pilot "confirm ATC options".

Unless you hear them read aloud correctly and every time, you're not setup for the ATC feature
