A fantastic experience to try with any VR headset.

I’m sure many of you already tried this, but for me, this was the first time and it almost freaked me out for several seconds. I had recorded a flight over the Grand Canyon on an R44 helicopter with the free flight recorder, and I played it back in VR so that I could watch the flight again in VR without actually flying it.

As I was over the abyss, I stepped out of my seat, and there I was, outside the R44 and “standing on the skids”. That was an incredible feeling, and for a while, I did not want to let go of the seat and try to move around. Don’t try that if you have a fear of heights. 😳

Anyway, once I regained my composure and ‘footing’, I was able to let go of the seat and examine the helicopter details. Seeing it from the outside while flying over the canyon was truly mesmerizing.

I then used the drone camera to ‘fly’ around the helicopter and that was another thrilling experience (I control the drone with a wireless Xbox controller).

Another thing I did was to position myself with the drone near the helipad before landing and watching myself landing it. It was really like being there in real life and a great way to judge my landing ‘skills’, or lack of. 🤔

I think this may become one of my favorite activities from now on. And if I have a guest who wants to try this, I’ll make sure to have a fan ready and turn it on in front of their face when he/she steps out. If they don’t have a coronary, we should all have a good laugh. 😂🤣

Someday, I might grow up, but I don’t want to 😊
