  1. Could not agree more. I also bought the Q3 to replace the G2, but I returned it. G2 is much sharper in the center and for me, I find that more important than edge to edge clarity.
  2. MSFS 2024 will have VR support, so Microsoft will have something that makes VR work for sure. I’m sure they do not want to abandon the current VR users, and for all we know, they may well come up with something better than openXR that will work with all headsets. I’m certainly not going to lose sleep over this 😂
  3. Indeed. I wasted a lot more time troubleshooting than it took to reinstall MSFS. However, I still have to reinstall many utilities and addons and I will need to be very careful and do it in small steps to isolate what if any addon had caused the problem.
  4. Well, I did reinstall MSFS and things are much better now. See the video that I posted above or below 😊
  5. *** Problem has been resolved.*** I reinstalled MSFS and I now get what I used to get before things went downhill. Here is a short video around Manhattan in VR and in 2D. Using mostly high or very high settings. Thank you all for your suggestions. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v7q4Un-osA0tXu5CcY8ev9FIkTXgaN6o/view?usp=sharing
  6. All good suggestions which I have tried except Hardware acceleration lowering LOD since all that was working great not too long ago. But first I am going to switch to DX12 and see what happens. But I fear I'm stuck doing an MSFS reinstall, and god forbid, a Windows reinstall 😅
  7. I also think an update may have degraded the performance somewhat, but as you said, it may well have nothing to do with MSFS. I think I have to byte the bullet and start from scratch again. Probably a good idea anyway to wipe out stuff that I do not use anymore or which left traces somewhere.
  8. Absolutely right, but that is not the problem here. I was getting about twice the performance over the last few months. In fact, while flying in VR over New York, I often got around 50 fps. So I'm pretty sure my hardware is capable of doing much better, but something has progressively changed somewhere.
  9. Because with this hardware, it should be much higher than that, and it was much higher before...about twice as high and it got progressively worse over the last 2 months I think.
  10. M2 drive. DX11, so not using frame generation. Enclosed video is sitting at KJFK with everything on Ultra now. This does not make sense, especially since it was not like this before https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HWq7y7Dni150LTOq0umtxzWqQDXH76-s/view?usp=sharing
  11. I am very fortunate to have a very high end system with an I9-13900K and an RTX 4090 and somehow, I am getting very crappy performance in MSFS with mostly medium settings. This screenshot is in KJFK and the task manager shows that both the CPU and GPU are barely working, and yet, according to MSFS, I am still limited by MainThread. Somehow, I must have done something bad somewhere since I used to get much better performance in the past, although never as good as I expected with such hardware. I am thinking that maybe now is the time to format my C: drive and start all over again 😢, or wait for MSFS 2024 😁. I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bUcdafPGrqp5pcvbDIrtYNsRFf9J-yEm/view?usp=sharing
  12. THANK YOU! You were 100% correct. It was one of the tools that I do not use that got shrunk somehow. After resizing, I could close it. Thanks again, Maurice
  13. Sorry if this has been asked before, but this icon has suddenly shown up when flying in VR and I have no idea where that came from. If I click on the icon, the sign changes from + to - or vice versa, but nothing else happens Any ideas ? Thank you https://drive.google.com/file/d/14tHGhrij-688eHs58lg64EdxCpEijTfP/view?usp=sharing
  14. A while back, I had exactly the same problem. It turned out to be the Thrustmaster TQ quadrant. If I disconnected its USB plug, the scrolling would stop. The problem was very intermittent and it took me a long time to figure this out. Best thing for you to do is to disconnect one USB at a time and see if a particular one stops the scrolling. Easy to do and the result is immediate if it is in fact a USB issue.
  15. I have no idea about what the DOF reality software can or cannot do, but I know for a fact that you can get a much better response with the Flyptmover software. I use it with a custom platform I built with Simrig actuators and there is such a thing as the platform returning to level after having tilted at the beginning of a turn for instance. But there is a caveat…the Flyptmover software is quite versatile, but you have to spend a fair amount of time learning what it can do and how to use the various filters that take the telemetry coming from any flight simulator and transform it to get a more realistic response. Having said all that, for me, the beauty of a motion platform is not so much whether the motion is close to accurate or not. Keeping in mind that commercial airline simulators cost million of dollars, you can’t really expect consumer platforms to be anywhere near as good. A motion platform adds something which you cannot get any other way, the feeling that you are actually flying. My motion platform moves very little compared to how much it can move, but I find that less is actually more. I don’t want to be shaken up. Even little movements add incredible sensations which really fool you into believing you are in the air and not tied to a desk on the ground. Bottom line, I easily tolerate incorrect motion response when that happens and I throughly enjoy the little nudges now and then, which is what you actually feel when you fly in real life in a small airplane. I simply cannot fly without some motion anymore and if I try, it feels like I am on smooth rails, and the immersion is totally lost for me. Without motion, I know I am not actually flying. With motion, I often forget I am in a simulator. Another caveat, I fly in VR and not 2D. Motion with 2D feels totally wrong. It’s probably different with car simulators, but for me, I would get rid of my motion platform if I could not fly in VR. Hope that answers part of your question at least😊
  16. I did not keep track of expenses. You can find the current price of the Simrig actuators on their website but I paid $3,600 Canadian for the SR1 actuators. The rest of the expenses came from wood, aluminum extrusions and peripherals. Motion smoothness depends on the telemetry from the flight simulator. It can be very smooth in calm weather, or very jerky in heavy turbulence or if you crash. Simrig has their own software but mostly for car simulation, but it supports Flyptmover software. Setting up the software is probably the hardest part but there are a few setups available for the basics. Tuning the software is not for the faint of heart, but I don’t worry about it. I am satisfied with basic movements. I am not looking for software that emulates multimillion dollars commercial simulators.
  17. I built my motion platform to suit my specific needs and I used Simrig SR1 actuators from Simrig.se. Enclosed are 2 links to videos showing the platform details and the platform in motion. I wanted my motion platform to be very versatile so that I could fly either helicopters or airplanes and I could not see a way to do that with the DOFreality unit. Mine is 3 DOF incl roll, pitch and heave. I much prefer having heave instead of yaw, but yaw would likely be better for car racing sims. When flying, I like feeling the up and down motion during turbulence or when having a hard landing😊
  18. Did the latest windows 11 update kill MSFS if DX12 is used? 🤔 This may well be a coincidence, but just after doing a windows 11 update, MSFS with DX12 stopped working. I had done a 2 hour flight just before the update and right after the update, MSFS kept crashing shortly after loading the flight. I tried several times with same result, so I switched to DX11 and restarted. MSFS loaded with no issue and after a short flight, everything is still good. I was using the known good Nvidia driver. As I said, this may be a coincidence, but maybe not 🙂
  19. I had been running with no problems with DX12, but after the latest Windows 11 update which I ran yesterday, MSFS would crash every time shortly after the flight was loaded. So, just for fun, I changed to DX11 and voila, all back to normal. No idea why the latest Windows update messed up MSFS and DX12, but this is what happened. Coincidence? Maybe.
  20. I have an I9 13900k and an RTX 4090 and I also suffer from occasional major stutters even with no live traffic. Most of time everything works great and I have not been able to reproduce this stuttering fest where it happened before. Same place one day and all is fine…another day slide show and VR headset goes blank for a second or two. It seems that the location is irrelevant, Anyway, I’m not helping and just letting you know you are not alone with this issue. For my part, I have given up trying to figure out what else to do. I’m just waiting for SU 13 and hoping for a miracle 😁
  21. The main problem is finding out what is overtaxing the CPU. Since my hardware should be able to keep up with pretty much any scenario, it makes no sense that approaching Victoria B.C. for instance with no traffic to be seen and no photogrammetry, should cause big stutters and/or sometimes a blank screen in my Reverb G2. Something must be taxing the CPU enough to pretty much stop it at times. My CPU has a custom water loop and never runs hot. I even monitored for throttling or thermal issues with the Intel utility, and neither of those is happening. I fly exclusively in VR, so the GPU has a bigger job, but the 4090 is running very cool and is barely utilized. So why a blank headset display for a few seconds? I have spent many hours trying to isolate things instead of flying, but now I figure enough is enough. I am just enjoying the times where everything works great, which is most of time anyway 😊
  22. I just got a brand new PC with an I9 13900K and an RTX 4090. When I got this PC, I thought that stutters would be a thing of the past. Not so… when I approach many cities, I get long stutters and sometimes a blank screen for a few seconds whether online or Ai traffic is enabled or not. At other times, the fps drops for unknown reasons and at other times, everything works great. So, what I am saying is that your Nvme drive is almost certainly not the issue. I wish I could give you more advice on what to do, but I fear this is something that only MS or Asobo can address. I have tried just about everything (and I mean everything) to pinpoint what is causing this, but now I have given up and accepted that occasional stutters and fps drop is something I will have to live with for the foreseeable future unless someone comes up with a miraculous cure. 🙁
