MSFS version issues

Featured Replies

I had an older version. Something like 2.9.6.2 or something. Back in August, I grabbed some update files from here. They caused the app to no recognize commands for the default planes. I reset. Didn't help. I uninstalled MCE, also didn't help.

I installed the latest version from the website. The first officer began rambling on. Every command was performed wrong and he kept asking for confirmations and complaining that we are on the ground one moment then in the air the next.

3 times, I have downloaded and installed the version from my Simmarket account. Still the 1st officer misunderstands the commands, and keeps talking. I have disabled "extra chatter" in the interface and in the ini file. However, a simple command like "master battery on" will get a response like "nav radio switched off", "back course set to 0", "Hi my name is Clive", "I only have two hands", "I just need you to confirm yes or no"...........

Looks like either a badly calibrated microphone, the ambient noise conditions have significantly changed oryou swapped older headset for a new one.

Any of these would invalidate the trained speech profile and in theory should make a new one in Windows Control Panel, make it active and train it from scratch.

First, un-install MCE via Windows Control Panel and install the package from Simmarket. It has been updated a few days ago to also support FENIX A320.

Once you're done with installation, restore MCE to factory settings.

Windows Start->Multi Crew Experience->Restore factory setiings.

Next, don't start MSFS and run MCE. The wizard should run instead.

Make sure you calibrate your mike and go through basic speech training.

If you happen to also use FENIX A320, you need to download this patch and replace a single file "Simco84_Ldr.exe" to ensure FO can dial SPD, HDG and ALT on FENIX FCU.

Do not use the other patch. It is for the Ultimate Edition and is sometimes in Beta with regards a few features added over time.

I did get a new headset recently. I took your advice and re-trained the speech engine.

Bingo! It works now. I just did a test flight.

I don't know if I am handling ATC incorrectly or not. Does the MSFS edition have the ability to to act upon a command like, "Contact clearance delivery" or must I use the line numbers?

I am using the native ATC. The box for auto hiding the ATC window is not selectable, so I assumed the MSFS MCE cannot interface with the native ATC feature.

Affirmative. Native MSFS ATC as well as PF3 ATC can be interacted with using your voice and proper ATC jargo, not just line numbers.

In MSFS, it's unnecessary for MCE to frequently pop-up the ATC window in order to force a text update as was the case with Pepar3D & FSX, therefore, best to leave it hidden. MCE sends specific events to the sim, not keyboard keys. And while MCE could toggle it, it has no insight as to whether it is currently showing or hidden. Try speech commands "show atc" or "hide atc" when you need to visually check what's there..

There are a couple of imporrtant things you need to be aware of.

1 - You must set a call-sign in MSFS. Ask co-pilot "confirm call-sign" and he should report the correct one.

2 - On localized versions of MSFS, like German or French editions, you need to set MSFS language to English US.

That will ensure MCE fetches the options in English as expected and not ATC in German or Italian which it isn't prepared for..

You can assume you are setup when you ask "confirm ATC options" and a TTS voice is able to spell out the content of the ATC window at any time.

This is crucial bcause for instance when you acknowledge something, MCE doesn't just blindly send the equivalent of key 1, but would rather scrutinise the menu to see if it's showing "Acknowledge whatever....". If it's not the case, no selection will take place even though the speech might have been recognized correctly and shown in red font. Pevents accidentally selecting "Tune whatever on XXX.XXX" which may occasionally pop-up.

Also, the ATC grammar is dynamically updated based on what the menu is showing.

For instance, if menu has "Tune Frankfurt tower on XXX.XXX", speech engine will be updated to accept speech like "switching to Frankfurt tower" or "Tune Frankfurt tower on com one", instead of putting 25000 names in the speech grammar and hoping for the best.

There are other threads related to MCE + ATC on this forum, I don't want to repeat myself.

Here are a few.

Native Microsoft ATC is really the best when it comes to VFR.

For IFR, there are other options. See this thead regarding integration with PF3.
