Isolating server/net issues when evaluating performance

Featured Replies

Many may know this already but I just learned about it last night in trying to discern sources of loss of ultra smooth animation/performance which I had recently arrived at using a method which generates ultra low frametime variance (FTV) which is absolutely associated with incredibly smooth performance.

For the first time since launch I decided to go into and stay in OFFLINE MODE after getting one of those alerts that I had lost connection to MSFS servers.  I was pleasantly surprised to learn OFFLINE MODE created ultra low FTV and 100% freedom from even a hint of a stutter which you can see here in this CapFrameX app.  This was in the PMDG 738 into KDEN.  To me, this implies the sim engine is polished and ultra capable.  So what a great way to isolate the core engine from online connectivity as the source of issues w/ sim performance.   I noticed the sim really looked the same when offline so I'm not quite sure what all is lost w/o connectivity beyond RT Online Traffic, and I guess changes in weather or PG?  Nothing visible changed w/ weather when I went offline.

Cheers
