December 29, 20223 yr In my final days of flying here in Roswell I taxied pass Elvis's jet whenever I was using runway 17-35. Since it was a 10,000ft runway I would always ask for intersection H at the center of the runway since it was a shorter taxi and 5,000 feet was plenty for a Cessna 152. That taxiway took me right past the Elvis JetStar. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
December 29, 20223 yr Nice!, There is a wealth of secrets sitting out there in bone yards. I remember being in Victorville and we were parked near the 747 that was used in the Air Force One movie. If I remember right, one side of it had the VC-25 paint and the other side still had the United Airlines paint 🤣. I believe they said they used it during the Air Refueling scene. I guess it was a side shot. Rick Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
December 29, 20223 yr Author The Elvis jet was there before KROW became a boneyard. Now it is full of airliners that have cycled out. We used to have three active runways. A number of years ago they got the FAA's permission to close one of the runways to use as storage for recycled aircraft. The Elvis jet was already here when I moved to Roswell over 25 years ago. It was a derelict then. No telling how long it's just going to be sitting there. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
