February 5, 20233 yr During the Cold War, NATO had a Command called Allied Forces Baltic Approaches (BALTAP). The Command was in Karup, Denmark. It consisted of Danish and German armed forces and was deactivated in 2002. Today, this area is in many ways very interesting. During the Cold War, Sweden was, of course, not part of that command, but things are changing. And Sweden is an important factor, from the Skagerak through to the Baltic Sea. We depart from Nordholz (ETMN), the only remaining airbase of the German Navy. P3C Orions MPA and various helicopters are stationed here, organized in two Naval Air Wings. Our first landing is at Schleswig (ETNS), home of the German Air Force Reconnaissance Wing 51 "Immelmann", flying MRCA Tornado aircraft and various drones. Previously, this was a Naval Airbase. We overfly Eggebek, the former home of the Naval Air Wing 2, and land at Sonderborg, (EKSB), Denmark. We continue north and land at Billund (EKBI), Denmark's second-largest airport. Our next stop is Aarhus (EKAH). Aarhus is Denmark's second-largest city. The airport was used by the Danish Air Force as well as by NATO Forces. The military part was closed and is now used as a civilian terminal. Right in the middle of the Kattegat is Laeso (EKLS), a small airfield (runway length 3000 feet) on a small island. We return to the Danish Mainland and land at Aalborg (EKYT). The airport is used by the Danish Air Force and several airlines. We leave Denmark, cross the Skagerak, and reach Kristiansand (ENCN), Norway. About 15 airlines offer connections from Kristiansand airport, and the Norwegian Air Force operates a training center here. We follow the Skagerak coast northwest and reach Torp (ENTO). The airport offers connections to Norwegian and Swedish destinations. We cross over the entrance of the Oslo Fjord and reach Swedish airspace. We head south along the Skagerak and land at Gothenburg's airport Landvetter (ESGG), Sweden. Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden. We follow the Kattegat coast south and land at Halmstad (ESMT), continue south to reach Landskrona (ESML) before crossing back into Denmark to land at Kopenhagen's international airport Kastrup (EKCH), Denmark. Finally, we head back to Sweden. Shortly after departure, we overfly the Oresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden. We finish this flight at Malmö (ESMS) Sweden's third largest city. Malmö grew in many ways after the Oresund Bridge was completed in the year 2000. The flight has 755 miles and 12 landings, and we will decide during the flight, depending on time, if we can reach Malmö or finish the flight earlier. Aircraft: We should be cruising at about 250 – 300 knots. I will be in the TBM930, but the King Air, the CJ4, or any other airplane in this speed range is suitable. As always, please fly what you like. Documentation: The flight plans can be downloaded here. Additional scenery:There are several addons available, some of which we used in previous flights. https://flightsim.to/file/3517/etmn-nordholz-germany https://flightsim.to/file/25568/schleswig-jagel-airbase-etns https://flightsim.to/file/15223/eksb-sonderborg-airport https://flightsim.to/file/5405/ekbi-billund-denmark https://flightsim.to/file/30925/ekls-laes-airfield https://flightsim.to/file/3877/kristiansand-kjevik-encn https://flightsim.to/file/5011/sandefjord-airport-torp-ento https://flightsim.to/file/27618/esgg-gteborg-landvetter-airport https://flightsim.to/file/26742/copenhagen-kastrup-ekch-default-airport-upgrade https://flightsim.to/file/11696/oresund-bridge-denmark-sweden The package is available here.
