CH Eclipse yoke lubricant advice needed

Recommended Posts

My CH Eclipse yoke is not centering properly in the pitch axis.  Tried CRC 808 silicone spray on the shaft but that made it worse 🙄  What would be the best lubricant to use ?  Thanks for any advice.

Cheers,
Emile Bax.

For years, I've used a graphite powder lubricant. It's messy, but very effective. The CH is inherently poor with respect to smooth travel, especially for the Y axis. The graphite based lubricant, which is a dry lubricant, will allow a one hand push pull, left right movement of the yoke without binding. To apply this lubricant, you simply place a tiny bit on a piece of paper, and then rub it on the shaft with your finger. While you're doing this, be sure to have plenty of protection for those areas that you don't want the carbon particles to fall on. This stuff will stain anything and everything. Don't use a vacuum cleaner to clean it either. A paper towel will do. The idea is to use as little of it as possible and to rub it on the plastic until there's no more excess powder.

I've used all types of lubricants, and this one seems to work the best. One last warning, be careful how you first remove the cover to open it. This is essentially very fine graphite powder in a thin tube. Open it over a piece of 8x10 piece of paper so that if some of it spills on it, you can use it to lubricate the yoke.

In your case, try to rub off as much of the silicone as possible so as not to mix the two--if you decide to go the graphite route.
