Google/Avsim is your friend for settings. The forums.flightsimulator.com (official MSFS forum) has a ton of settings related threads. Since you'll likely be waiting a while for your VR headset, I'd take advantage of the time to get comfortable tweaking settings for your monitor. You'll probably want to use DX12 and Frame Generation to double your FPS, TAA for anti-aliasing and crank most other settings up to ultra. Your Terrain LOD will impact frame rates as you get into the upper end, so that's one to watch, as well as live traffic. I actually crank pretty much everything then cap my frames in my Nvidia Profile so I end up locked at 60 fps with frame gen (my monitor's max refresh rate). That keeps both my CPU and GPU running below their maximum, improving smoothness.
