July 5, 20232 yr Hi, after the 3.20 b43 update for AAO, I now have a "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes" dialog every time I start MSFS or AAO. I read in the manual that in order for certain functions to work, AAO must be run as an administrator. I assume that 3.20 b43 made a change to the installer to force this to be run as administrator which is part of the reason why I am seeing this message now. The other factor is that AAO is added to my exe.xml autostart for MSFS. If I take too long to click "Yes" on that dialog, AAO never starts and I must restart it manually. It doesn't seem to impact MSFS starting up, although I sometimes get a warning soon after about something not being able to get the graphics adapter and quitting, but that doesn't happen consistently. This is more of an annoyance than anything else. I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this, either with permissions or understanding better what changed in 3.20 b43. I am not going to decrease my privilege in Windows 10 just to make this dialog go away (the other "solution" offered by MS). If this is the way it has to be, I guess that's ok. I'm wondering whether code signing this app would help things? Thanks!

No. Check the "Application" menu in AAO if "Always start as Admin" has been activated. And the message is Windows standard, it is always shown when an app requests admin privileges. Admin privileges are required for the WebAPI of AAO to work. No admin = no StreamDeck, no WebFIPs, no WebFMCs, no Bridges Just now, coldnebo said: The other factor is that AAO is added to my exe.xml autostart for MSFS. July 5, 20232 yr Author Quote Check the "Application" menu in AAO if "Always start as Admin" has been activated. oh! indeed it has, but I didn't set that. interesting. Quote The installer doesn't do this, that is something that the user must do. Check the "Application" menu if "Start automatically with the sim" has been activated. Interesting... another thing I don't remember setting. However a long time ago I remember adding apps to my exe.xml manually, so it could be this is the case. The setting in applications is unchecked, but the entry exists in exe.xml... so I'll try removing it from the exe.xml and enabling it via the menu just to make sure it's configured the right way now. I understand about the requirement for admin, but another way this might be removed is with code signing. However being a dev, I know what a PITA that is, maybe not worth the effort. Thanks for the explanations!

The only reason for admin privileges for AAO is the .Net HttpListener class. It just doesn't work (right or at all) without them. Can't see how signing the code could help with that, IMHO only recoding all web features would (or if the user goes to the trouble of using netsh to allow the URL?)
