Can I get by with i7-6700k + RTX 3050?

The Rig dates from late 2016, with the exception of the 3050 I added last year when the 970 died. Single monitor 1080p, no need for ultra settings, but I gotta have my PMDG, likely will try the Fenix, and as many great airports as I can find. Will this be an acceptable experience in MSFS?

I know a rebuild is imminent, but it's been 8 years and was hoping I could squeeze out another summer without the hassle of doing all the hardware research again.

Alternative is I may be able to find ~1,500USD to rebuild now but I'm limited by space to a SFF pc, currently a Fractal Core 500 which can't handle any video cards > 2 slot width. That would limit to a 4060 at best.

Am I asking for disappointment by sticking with the old rig?

What CPU is in the box now?  My guess is you could make peace w/ performance if your CPU is up to the task on two of the most demanding planes you can find for MSFS.  Rendering will be okay w/ your GPU but again depending on what CPU you're going to ask to run those planes with, not sure, especially packing it full of great airports!  I think w/ 8y/o hardware I would skip all the addons, save like a bear and start acquiring some real upgrades, starting with 4080 16Gb at a minimum, and if you're really after the best, 4090, which will eat up that budget yours and then some!   

What are you using now, FSX/P3D/XP?

Oops, I see it in the title.  Here's a thought--here's my parts list which I just assembled 6 weeks ago or so, super happy with results.  Everything is there but the RTX4090 I bought a few weeks before--you won't have to figure out what you need just order these parts and you're good to go, and bonus I can help you with guidance if you need it.  It was my first AMD build after 30y of Intel builds.

Noel, thanks for sharing the parts list. I was just reviewing the previous threads documenting your build journey and it has been very educational. I may be able to swing a 7800X3D with a 4070 if I decide to go with a new build from the ground up. Heck, maybe even a 4080 if I find a way to hide the invoice from the "finance manager". I can't test MSFS on the old one until the summer (it's become the kids' computer). I got a few more weeks to do research and then I will go wild when the kids go off on holiday. Cheers!
