August 20, 20241 yr For u guys thats use L NavMap, and loaded the offline global elevation files provided on website. Theres acctualy an alternative for download this elevation data, from other place that not its from "NOAA"? Im asking because i was planning an flight, and when i measured a manual waypoint ft to insert on flight plan, the LNavMap say 700fts to it, but when i come to the flight in xplane,i crashed on a mountain on this point, a mountain of 2500 ft. I Googled this place and the Google said me the right parameter. So i was chocked with it. The L NavMap read a wrong value to me. I tried different measures on the world and the others are right, just that one i see this reading ft problem (It is on Rio De Janeiro,Brazil) So,i realize that can be a problem from this elevation data that i using. As one more think, this data is from 2004 so, are outdated. Do u guys have an alternative place that provide this elevation data too?
August 20, 20241 yr GLOBE not as accurate as the online data but it is at least complete. No idea about the alternative download. If its https://www.littlenavmap.org/downloads/GLOBE Elevation Data/ it is the same data. I have plans to update to more accurate data but too much to do. So no idea when. BTW: If you crash into a mountain while flying: This sounds like you were flying VFR in clouds or low visibility. Not good. Fly IFR in low visibility and use SID, STAR and approach procedures which have correct altitude limitations to avoid such crashes. Just saying. 😉 Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
August 21, 20241 yr Author I was doing a IFR flight but on low altitude (Cause im simulating a City Tour Flight). The weather is clean, and the plane was setted up on auto pilot VNAV and manual altitude hold, the altitude info i get on LNavMap as i said. But my flight not is the point, i didnt make a mistake. I followed a wrong information thats LNavMap gives, and the auto pilot just followed it and crashed, because this elevations mistakes at this certantly point on my plan. Backing in the elevation data, im curious about that, and thinking if had a way to get a more accurate and updated elevation data to use on LNavMap. This post bellow can mean somethink? https://github.com/albar965/littlenavmap/issues/282 I see we have a lot of terrain capture projects gone, but they are on in other format, i tried UCGS DEM and Nasa files but on LNavMap said "Theres no Globe files in directory" and didnt read any elevation values. Is hard to make thia newer elevation data can be accessible on LNavMap? Is somethink i can do or need program on source code of software? SRTM capture needs a convertion?

I'll check if I can modify the elevation detection but it is only as accurate as the source data. You can always use the online data for regions where it has coverage. Always use a large buffer when flying low. I'd say at least 2000 ft. 4 hours ago, SanDiegoTheOne said: Backing in the elevation data, im curious about that, and thinking if had a way to get a more accurate and updated elevation data to use on LNavMap. I have to change the code to use another source. Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
August 21, 20241 yr Author Oh right, thanks Alex. I just wanna clarify that, that gonna be greateful when we can have the feature of import multiple types of geo elevation Data.
August 21, 20241 yr I'll put this into the next major release 3.2. Personally I'd like to have a better and more detailed source too. Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
August 21, 20241 yr The globe data has a problem with peaks which are underestimated or lost in sampling. I see 1000 ft less for 5000 to 9000 ft mountains. No way I can fix this for now. I need other data for this. Use a good amount of buffer when flying. You can adjust the buffer (red line in profile) here in options: Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
August 21, 20241 yr Author Yeah, i setted the a good safety amount for red line, its fine to deal. Im excited to 3.2 realese with that feature if u can. 😁ty
