August 25, 20241 yr Regarding how models can be ported from the present FM format to the new one, there are always 2 possible solutions, separate FDMs or a single one encompassing all of the changes introduced with the new format of the FLIGHTMODEL.CFG and other conf files while still allowing "legacy" files to be parsed and integrated. I've only seen reference to one notorious update so far - the possibility to define many new objects that can be associated with aerodynamic effects such as lift / drag / thrust. This might mean that it'll finally be possible to create aircraft with multiple vertical stabilizers / rudders, asymmetric wing configurations, etc... or to overcome necessary limitations of the FM by using "hidden" surfaces, like for instance it's done in X-Plane... I look forward to find good news regarding a fully updated ground physics / transition from ground to flight mode solution for 2024. I don't think that the "tricks" introduced in SU15 can be considered as a good way to model ground physics, because instead of fine tuning "physics" they trick them by masking "problematic" effects. Again my serious hope is that Petrovich, ex IL-2 Great Battles (which is still my preferred flight simulator if I have to choose among DCS, IL2, XP and MSFS/P3D), did his "magic" with the 2024 FDM. I also don't want to see my airliners behave like kites when there's even just a slight wind variability / turbulence... not to mention the not so heavy aircraft of all types... Regarding weather modelling I hope that effects like those associated with icing conditions, some forms of precipitation (hail for instance), turbulence, but also the way convection and subsidence are modelled, get updates. I love to see the short sequences of a glider being tugged and then flying near mountains in 2024, but I hope that glider towing doesn't have the present issues with the AI, like the C172 starting a pronounced descent during initial towing 😕 or trying to thermal using RW techniques just to find out that in MSFS you thermal more effectively by simply going straight ahead... I surely look forward for an improved rotary wing flight dynamics model. Helicopters in MSFS 2020 are certainly a BIG step forward from FS9 / FSX / P3D times, but they're still rather limited when it comes to modelling of some prominent features of rotaries and their flight dynamics such as autorotations, settling with power, etc... I look fwd for ASOBO's official announcement of MSFS 2024 and finding out more details about the New MSFS sim !
