Jets over Vietnam

We visit Vietnam.

We depart from Pleiku (VVPK), a city in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. We head towards the coast of the South China Sea and land at Chu Lai (VVCA). This is a former US Airbase, now used by the Vietnam Army. We fly north along the coast, pass over Da Nang, and land at Dong Hoi (VVDH). The improved airport began operations in 2008.

We follow the coast to reach Vinh (VVVH), the largest city in North-Central Vietnam. Turning inland we reach Tho Xuan (VVTX), a mixed-used airport. It is planned to improve it to become a relief airport for Hanoi‘s Noi Bai International Airport. We reach this airport (VVNB), and continue back to the coast, and land at Haiphong‘s Catbi airport (VVCI). We explore the famous Halong Bay and finish the flight at Quang Ninh (VVVD), close to the Chinese Border. This is the first private airport in Vietnam.

Hạ Long Bay or Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular travel destination in Vietnam. The name Hạ Long means "descending dragon". The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and islets in various shapes and sizes. Hạ Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2 (600 sq mi), including 1,969 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km2 (129 sq mi) with a high density of 775 islets. The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate. The geo-diversity of the environment in the area has created biodiversity, including a tropical evergreen biosystem and a seashore biosystem. Hạ Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal species.

The flight has 622 miles with 6 landings and is planned for fast jets with a cruise speed of about 400 knots. I will be in the IFE Tornado, as always, please fly what you like.
