October 7, 20241 yr This is the first flight to explore the new German POI from WU 18. We depart from Ruegen Airport (EDCG) on the island of Ruegen, Germany‘s largest Island. The chalk cliffs and numerous beaches are well known. We overfly the Jasmund National Park and see the famous Pier in Sellin, which has a length of 394 meters and features a restaurant and a diving gondola. Heading back west leads us to Stralsund, the old Hanse Town with its prominent churches, St. Nicholas and St. Mary‘s. Further southwest is the airport Rostock-Laage (ETNL). It is a dual-use airport home to the German Airforce Eurofighter Wing 73. Continuing west we reach the next old Hanseatic City, Wismar, with its St. Nicholas Church. Heading south we arrive at Schwerin, the capital city of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. We overfly the beautiful Palace, that houses the parliament of the State. We cross the lake and land at Pinnow (EDBP). We head southeast and overfly the Müritz National Park and the many lakes that formed this landscape. We land at Rechlin (EDAX). About 13 miles south we reach Rheinsberg Palace. This palace serves as a basis for the famous Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam. The palace was bought by King Frederick William I who gave it to his son, Prine Frederick who later became Frederick the Great. He loved this castle and stated that the years at Rheinsberg were the happiest of his life. We land at Kyritz (EDBK). Continuing southeast we arrive at Bienenfarm (Beefarm, EDOI). This former base of the agricultural aircraft of the German Democratic Republic is now the home for all kinds of oldtimer aircraft. During the summer season, the Quax-Club conducts many events for oldtimer aircraft from all over Europe. Further southeast we reach the Berlin Metropol area and overfly Potsdam with Sansouci Palace and Gardens, the Grunewald Tower, and the Berlin POI, mainly the Stadium, the Brandenburg Gate, the disused Tempelhof airport, and many other buildings. We land at Berlin Brandenburg (EDDB), the new International Airport of Berlin. On our way further southeast we overfly the Tropical Island Resort, a tropical-themed indoor water park. It claims to be the largest indoor water park in the world! The Building belonged to the Cargolifter Company until it went bankrupt in 2002. We land at Cottbus (EDAP). 12 miles further southeast we reach the Rakotz Bridge. This bridge has been featured on one of the loading screens since WU18. With its reflection, the bridge forms a complete circle. From the video, you will notice that it is really hard to see in the simulator. We reach the river Elbe and the well-known Elb Sandstone Mountains. One of the main attractions is the Bastei Bridge, which connects many prominent formations of the mountains. We overfly Dresden with its prominent churches, the Frauenkirche and the Catholic Church. We finish this flight and land at the International Airport (EDDC). The flight has a length of 400 miles and 6 landings. I will be in the A2A Comanche. Please fly what you like. We will cut the flight short if we run out of time. Flight plans are here.
