Help needed for Aircraft Carriers

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

I have been using FS9 for a long time but never minded to launch from an aircraft carrier. Although I knew FS9 had an aircraft carrier near San Francisco. So now I am interested to launch and land on an aircraft carrier. Therefore I request anyone to kindly help overcome these problems of mine:-

1) How to add an Aircraft Carrier to FS2004?

2) Are there any decent Freeware or Payware Aircraft Carrier add-on for FS9? (Although I had one many years ago but didn't knew how to use it! The file was probably made by "Richard Hogan")

3) Are arrestor cables added with the add-on? If no, then how to install them?

4) I heard from someone that I cannot land any Aircraft, of my wish, on the aircraft carrier! Is it true? Do I need to make it compatible to land on an aircraft carrier? If yes, then how?

Any help regarding this is appreciated...

Thanks in advance!

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Search for the static addon "Waikato" carrier in New Zealand waters by a developer named Rewetti. You will also need some additions to flyable (Navy) aircraft panels, tailhooks, etc. mostly by a developer named Rob Barendregt.

I've had this fully opperational carrier for many years but it also needed some tweaks here and there. E.g. Because normal AI aircraft cannot use this type of scenery the author has craeted some animated aircraft but these sometimes "get in the way" of flyable catapult launchings, meaning that it was better to de-activate all but one catapult.

Good luck

Thanks for that Hans! I found it in the AVSIM library and installed it in my sim.

Sorry Hans, but I couldn't figure out which files you are talking about. I found a lot of files by Rob Barendregt. It would be kind enough if you guide me which file to download. For reference: https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=&Author=Rob+Barendregt&CatID=root

Thanks!

Something wrong with the link(s) I gave??  Your best bet will be to use Navy jets or prop aircraft already setup
with tail hooks!

FS2004 Gauges: Carrier Operation Package V2.0 This freeware archive contains a set of gauges, effects and sounds which you can add to existing military aircraft in FS2004, and enables you to perform takeoff and approach/landing on aircraft carriers. It features: (1): A catapult gauge, enabling a catapult-launch takeoff. (2): An arrester gauge, enabling a cable trap landing. (3): A "meatball" HUD gauge, enabling accurate approaches and landings. (4): A SonicBoom effect (visual and audible) plus controller gauge. Includes extensive installation/usage documentation, with examples for several very popular aircraft. V2.0 of this package contains a large number of additions, like catapult/arrester zones and a revised HUD; for details, see the included file "Upgrade COP V1.1 to V2.0.txt". By Rob Barendregt and Doug Dawson, with special input from Nick Needham.

Thanks @charliearon! Actually I couldn't understand what that package was all about. Don't worry, the links are working. I installed it and read all the documents present. At last with your and an YouTube video's help, I was able to setup my Aircraft carrier and make my f14 b tomcat compatible with it! Thanks for your nice explanation! Although I managed to launch somehow but landing is really very difficult and it's one thing which I need to master! Thanks once again! 😊

Well, landing on a real aircraft carrier and keeping yourself, your aircraft and the carrier itself in one piece, is no easy feat, especially because of the exact arrestor cable landing area and that under last minute full power in case none of the cables are hooked.

Becoming a real NAVY pilot is therefore a long and often tedious training traject with very many "drop outs" and frustrations along the way.

In FS2004 however you can try over and over again untill mastery sets in and that while only denting your personal ego when things go wrong.

Just keep trying and good luck.

USMC Aviator,

Many years ago when I was battling away with the Waikato carrier opperations myself I had the same precision landing problems as you have.

However, I also emplimented the arrestor cables and the catapult systems on a normal airport runway and explicitly used that for practice only.

I highlighted the cable landing area somwhat with some yellow lines to make them more visible during approaches. The catapult launching position was set a little further along the runway and was marked with a small visible rectangle in the middle of the runway.  Worked perfectly and was ideal for my practice flights.

Maybe an idea for you because this carrier system can be positioned on any runway anywhere in the world.

Regards

Hans

Thanks for it! I will surely try to add arrestor cable to a normal airport so that I can train myself! Thanks for your idea!
