Question regarding weather on LNM

Featured Replies

LNM will show wind direction and speed using a small info box at the top, middle of the screen. That information agrees with the information I get using the NOAAplugin for XP11.

When you hover over the airport icon on the map you get 3 types of wx info.

1. X-Plane nearest metar.

2. NOAA nearest metar.

3. NOAA interpolated METAR.

Funny thing is, these 3 sources don't always match.

The weather source I have chosen for LNM is NOAA.

The information given by LNM at the top center is never the same as the wx information that I receive when hovering over the airport icon.

This does not keep me from using LNM and, in all reality, is not a deal breaker.

It's just something that I noticed lately and was wondering if there is a fix for this.

Thanks,

KJ

Obviously they don't. 🙃
Nearest is just the weather from the closest airport.
Interpolated takes the closest ten or so airports and partially interpolates the weather from them.
Station means that the airport has a METAR report and thus will not show nearest and interpolated. This is the most accurate report.

Interpolation is a sort of guessing since I do not know how X-Plane mixes the weather stations but it is mostly quite close.

This is the actual environment around the aircraft *not* related to reports and forecasts. This always matches the current simulator conditions to 100 percent since it is directly fetched from the sim. Environment is also shown in the progress tab in more detail.

You don't need NOAA if you use X-Plane since LNM takes the METAR reports and wind-aloft forecast directly from the X-Plane files.

More details here in the user manual: https://www.littlenavmap.org/manuals/littlenavmap/release/latest/en/WEATHER.html

Nothing to fix . All working as expected within simulator limitations.😉

Would you recommend that I switch the input in LNM airport weather source to the sim?

Thank you for the details explanation.

I appreciate it.

Yes. If you use real weather in X-Plane definitely. Use it in LNM options on page "Weather" and in the menu "Weather".

You can use NOAA too to compare weather reports but there are no big differences as far as I've seen.
