I just bought AS for XP11.

When I use the default AS metar by tuning com radio to 122.000, the metar report doesn't match what LNM is showing me.

Sometimes it's as much as a 90 degree difference in wind direction and 10 kts in speed.

I have LNM wx set to draw from AS, so I assumed that they should be the same.

Wind source is pointed to the sim. XP11.

To be honest, I'm not which add-on could be the culprit for this difference.

I'd love to hear your opinion on this.

Thanks,

KJ

Edit: I just changed the LNM wx input from AS to the sim. The wx information is much closer to the AS metar, but is still not exactly the same.

The first test, the wind direction was within 5 degrees of matching as well as the speed was withing 5kts.

I will continue this comparison at different locations to gain more information.

With this change bringing the wx information more in line, I will be using this setting for the foreseeable future.

Your input is would still be valuable.

KJ

Edit 2: I checked the wx at a station 200 miles away from the first.

The wind direction is still off by 15 degrees but the velocity was within 3 kts.

LNM supports AS for XP11. All weather options in LNM have a AS setting where LNM fetches weather from AS files instead of XP. You have to use this for AS.  Otherwise LNM will fetch outdated weather reports from the file METAR.rwx.

Check if the AS path in LNM options on page "Weather files" is empty. LNM uses the default AS location then. This is C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Hifi\AS_XPL\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt for X-Plane 11. This is a text file and contains all METARs. It should have a recent modification date since it is updated by AS.

Select the right scenery library for X-Plane 11 since this setting also defines from what path the weather is fetched. This means: do not fly XP11 with the XP12 scenery library selected.

What X-Plane uses and interpolates is a different story since it is not known how they exactly do it. Interpolation happens if an airport does not have a METAR station (indicated in LNM). Results can be different if stations are far away but airports having a station should have correct weather.

You can send me your log file if you still see big differences (https://albar965.github.io/contact.html).

The path in LNM for AS weather is populated as per this picture.

Log.txt file sent to your email.

Thank you for the issue report.

I see no problems in the log. LNM finds the file AS weather file "C:\Users\KJ\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\AS_XPL\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt" and reads about 5300 METARs from it.

Settings are ok as far as I can see. LNM weather should match what you see in AS. If X-Plane interprets the weather correctly and if this matches AS weather is another story.

I see that you have several weather sources enabled in LNM options (Simulator, AS and NOAA). LNM shows all of them in the information tabs and map tooltip. Just to be sure: you need to look at the right source.

Simulator weather is not useful when using an external weather program. You can deselect this.

While I do have several wx sources available, I have AS checked as the source I want to use.

For wind source, my choices are Disabled, Manual, Flight Simulator (X-Plane only)and NOAA. Which of these should I be using?

Thanks,

KJ

That is ok. You can leave "Simulator" enabled but it does not make sense with AS and might return wrong indications.

NOAA is the best winds aloft forecast. X-Plane uses the same. Not sure about AS.
