June 2, 20251 yr We explore parts of northern Greece. Our departure airport is Thessaloniki (LGTS). The first waypoint is Mount Olympus, home of the Greek gods. We turn south and land at Larisa AB (LGLR). Heading west, we reach Myrini (LGMA), before heading north. Here we land at Filippos (LGKZ), an airport serving the city of Kozani. We head northwest and arrive at Kastoria (LGKA). Now we stay close to the Greek border, explore the mountains, and at waypoint 8 reach the famous Vikos Gorge. It lies on the southern slopes of Mount Tymphe with a length of about 32 km, depth ranging from 120 to 1350 m, and a width ranging from 2500 m to only a few meters at its narrowest part. Vikos is listed as the world's "deepest relative to its width" gorge by the Guinness Book of Records, among others. The gorge collects the waters of small, mostly seasonal streams and leads them into the Voidomatis River, which forms in the end part of the main gorge. The major part of the Vikos Gorge stream is only seasonal and is permanent only at the lowest part of the gorge. Vikos is also a site of major scientific interest because it is in almost virgin condition, it is a haven for endangered species, and it contains many varied ecosystems. We follow the canyons and reach today's destination, Ioannina (LGIO). The flight is 242 miles long and has 4 landings. I will be in the Bonanza, please fly what you like. The flight plans are here. Recommended scenery: LGIO, LGKZ, LGTS LGLR LGKA LGTS is available as payware from MXI via ORBX. Please note that it might be required to manually enable the airports from the Greek airport packs in the MSFS 2024 Library. We try real weather. Please set your simulator for a 4 pm local departure.
