Have been wondering for some time, what is that long vertical needle-like probe that sticks out downward from below these WWII aircraft wing? Is that a temperature probe?Lep

If you are talking about the thing on the left wing near the tip it looks like a pitot tube.

Thanks Chris. No I'm refering to a LONG vertical pin-like tube that sticks out from below the wing -- a Bf-109 or FW-190 would be more obvious.Lep

Some of those had radio altimeters toward the end of the war - Maybe it's the antenna.
