This is a slightly adapted flight we took in December of 2022. We explore the area between Curitiba and São Paulo, Brazil.

We depart from Joinville (SBJV). It is the third largest municipality in the southern region of Brazil, after the much larger state capitals of Curitiba and Porto Alegre. Joinville is also a major industrial, financial, and commercial center. We head north and arrive at Curitiba,  the capital and largest city in  Paraná, in Southern Brazil. The city sits on a plateau at 932 m (3,058 ft) above sea level. Curitiba is an important Latin American cultural, political, and economic center and hosts the Federal University of Paraná, established in 1912. In the 19th century, Curitiba's favorable location between cattle-breeding countryside and marketplaces led to a successful cattle trade and the city's first major expansion. Later, between 1850 and 1950, it grew due to logging and agricultural expansion in Paraná State (first Araucaria angustifolia logging, later mate and coffee cultivation, and in the 1970s wheat, corn, and soybean cultivation). In the 1850s, waves of European immigrants arrived in Curitiba, mainly Germans, Italians, Poles, and Ukrainians, contributing to the city's economic and cultural development and richness in diversity. Nowadays, only small numbers of immigrants arrive, primarily from Middle Eastern and other South American countries.

We overfly the city, see the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, and land at Bacacheri (SBBI). Now we head northwest. Our next landing is at Registro (SBWS).  Registro in Portuguese means register, and this name was given to the city because it was the port from which the earlier settlers registered the gold that was leaving on ships from Brazil to Portugal.

We turn towards the coast and follow it north until we turn inland to reach the São Paulo Metropolitan Area. Before we land at São Paulo's International Airport (SBSP), we explore the Neo Qu mica Arena, the Museo do Ipiranga, and the Planetarium. São Paulo is the most populous city in Brazil, the Americas, and the Western and Southern Hemispheres. Listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) as an alpha global city, it exerts substantial international influence in commerce, finance, arts, and entertainment. It is the largest urban area by population outside Asia and the most populous Portuguese-speaking city in the world. The city's name honors Paul the Apostle, and people from the city are known as Paulistanos. The city's Latin motto is Non ducor, duco, which translates as "I am not led, I lead."

After departure, we visit the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (a palace housing the São Paulo State Government) and the city center before turning west. We reach the Itupararanga Dam. The water reservoir supplies several cities and is used to irrigate hundreds of farms in the vicinity. It is a leading tourist attraction in the region. We land at Sorocaba (SDCO). We fly over the Kadampa Meditation Center and land at Jundiai (SBJD).

We head north, overfly the Campinas Brazil Mormon Temple and land at Amarais (SDAM). After departure, we overfly the Sirius Particle Accelerator and the Moinho Povos Unidos, a typical Dutch windmill. The Holambra Mill was built over 20 months under the direct supervision of Dutch architect Jan Heijdra, who was responsible for the project and one of the few specialists in windmill construction worldwide. During the construction, Jan Heijdra, then 82 years old and residing in the Netherlands — where he had already built and renovated approximately 400 mills — visited Brazil several times exclusively to oversee the project. It was inaugurated on July 12, 2008, as part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Dutch immigration to Holambra, which welcomed its first immigrants from the Netherlands to the former Ribeirão farm in July 1948. We finish the flight at Americana (SDAI). Aircraft.
