Kneeboard Nav Log crashes after last night's Windows XP updates

Recommended Posts

Guest dswo

Post hoc ergo propter hoc? Sometimes. Last night I let Windows XP Pro do its new set of recommended updates:Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - October 2008 (KB890830)Security Update for Windows XP (KB954211)Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB956391)Security Update for Windows XP (KB956803)Security Update for Windows XP (KB956841)Security Update for Windows XP (KB957095)Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB956390)This morning I tried to pull up the Nav Log in the FSX kneeboard and kept getting a crash to desktop (CTD). Google turned up a discussion of this problem here:http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index...howtopic=130066I tried the suggested fix, but got nervous about the results, and did a System Restore. I figured the problem would return, and I would get CTDs again when I tried to pull up the Nav Log on my kneeboard. But in my tests so far, that hasn't happened yet. Maybe it will. But the System Restore also undid the aforementioned Windows updates. I'm wondering if one of these might have caused my kneeboard trouble.Anyone else seeing this?

EDIT: It is morning and I'm apparently not hitting on all cylinders because my answer has absolutely nothing to do with what you asked. Tonight, I will try to view the nav log on the kneeboard and see what happens. :-bluegrab Phill

Which SP level of FSX are your running? Not me - but I've never had the C++ issue but it is well documented on these forums and the necessary fix to ensure a smooth running FSX.Yes, doing a System Restore will roll your system back pre-udpates and allow it to work. But your system will still have a major unresolved core issue which will cause you problems in the future.

Unfortunately, I haven't found much info on the C++ issue, other than the link in my original post. I searched the forums here several ways, but couldn't seem to find the right thread. I would be grateful for a pointer.

I just confirmed what you see. I have FSX-Acceleration on XP-Home SP3 with latest security updates. When I click nav in the kneeboard I get a CTD. I am also running Nvidia 8600 GTS 256MB with original drivers. If you find more, please post here.Phill
