MSFS2024 : issue with throttle control (buttons)

Featured Replies

well hmm, I post here because after several hours of search yesterday i'm still unable to figure it out 💩. I know it's a long shot because most people here probably have high end hardware so my keyboard issue is probably not very common and the least of your concerns.

I have finally a new PC (after 12 years of a good old one that served me well 👍). I decided to go MSFS2024 because, like it or not (tbh i still currently preferred v2020), it's the future and installing both sims on the new machine does not make much sense to me (200+ GB of v2020 download being one of the main reason). So I went MSFS2024 with a good positive attitude but yeah it didn't last long.

I'm exclusively on PC with Steam. I have a joystick with a little throttle slider but, unless i'm really playing often (which has not been the case lately), it don't use it and it stays in its box and I just play with the keyboard and a pc xbox one controller that I bought a few years ago for MSFS. For now, on the new PC I haven't tried the joystick.

I have a big issue with the throttle commands (F1, F2, F3, F4) by default on keyboard (i map f2/f3 on the xbox controler but the issue is the same).  Those commands don't always respond which renders the plane unflyable. You click on the button and sometimes the power increases/decreases but sometimes it does not so it's just painful because throttle control is one of the main control to fly a plane, it has to be reliable. All other controls work fine, it's just the throttle that is erratic.

I have no addons installed (empty community), just tried with default planes (da-62, c-172). I even have disonnected the xbox controller to test and the issue remains so it's not even a controller conflict issue. Even with only the default mouse/keyboard configuration i have the same problem. With MSFS2020 i obviously never had such problem. All AI assistance are off.

The only thing that i have noticed, is that those throttle controls become unresponsive if i move my mouse over one of the two the 'MFD' screens (without even clicking anything). Maybe it also happens with other specific actions but at least moving my mouse over the MFD seems to always cause the issue and render the throttle buttons unresponsive.

well if you have any idea of what could cause my issue (or if you can test F2-F3 when the mouse cursor is over the MFD on the default DA62 for example and see if you have the same issue) i would be very grateful. Maybe it's by design so that it's not possible to fly the plane properly because Asobo/MS find that normal i'm just wasting my time trying to figure it out (with msfs2024 you never know how much it will try to frustrate you even for something as basic as this, yeah my positive attitude is gone already after spending 5 useless hours only on this specific issue😁).

🍺

off topic, but also how it possible that someone (probably group of 10's of highly qualified people) who designs a UI for such a high end product that sells to millions does not implement a cancel button when you change settings (you're forced to save ?) ... sometimes i just don't understand ...

bah .. after a few more hours wasted I finally came across a bug report that seem to match with my issue :

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/1-5-7-0-regression-just-looking-at-the-g1000-can-make-the-throttle-not-work/726576

even if that one is reported for xbox, it's probably the same on PC given that they probably share most of the same issues now that the pc version has been regularly and continuously brought down to xbox standard ..

oh well, it was already reported almost 4 months ago so I guess it's just one of those stupid easy to fix bug that they will never look at because they don't get many votes (they'll add 100 new avatars, new unfinished features and 50 new unfinished partially working planes before fixing basic issues) .. bah i'm out, it's a lost cause, between msfs2024 and me since day 1 something doesn't click unfortunately hehe, i probably just had too high expectations after enjoying a very good MSFS2020, sorry for venting 😂🍺
