October 24, 2025Oct 24 This is a plan for a flight around the Czech Republic. We will need several days to complete this trip. We visit West and Central Bohemia first and depart from Cheb (LKCB), a town near the German border in West Bohemia. Shortly after departure, we fly over your first significant Point of Interest (POI): the spectacular Loket Castle. This Gothic fortress sits atop a granite rock surrounded by a bend in the Ohře River. The first stopover is in Rakovník (LKRK), a town in the Central Bohemian region, before we approach the country’s largest airport, Václav Havel Airport Prague (LKPR). After taking off from Prague, the route heads to the smaller Bubovice (LKBU) airfield, southwest of the capital. Next, we see one of the most famous landmarks in the Czech Republic: Karlštejn Castle. This magnificent Gothic castle was built by Emperor Charles IV to safeguard Bohemia’s Imperial Regalia and coronation jewels. Shortly afterwards, Průhonice Chateau comes into view, a Neo-Renaissance structure with a vast park that belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage site. The next stop is Benešov (LKBE). Nearby, we see Konopiště Chateau, the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination triggered World War I. The first section ends with a landing in Jungbunzlau (LKMB), the historic name for Mladá Boleslav, which is famously home to the car manufacturer Škoda. In section 2, we visit the Bohemian Paradise and East Bohemia. We fly over the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj) nature reserve, where impressive rock formations dominate the landscape. You’ll see the Gothic Kost Castle and the castle on the sandstone rocks of Hrubá Skála. The most distinctive POI of this area is the ruins of Trosky, with its two unique basalt towers visible from afar. After flying over this historic landscape, we land in Kolín (LKKO), a town on the Elbe River. From there, the route continues to Kutná Hora, where you’ll see two exceptional churches: the Gothic St. Barbara’s Cathedral and the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist in Kutná Hora-Sedlec. Both churches are part of the UNESCO World Heritage and are considered architectural masterpieces. The next landing takes us to Pardubice (LKPD), the regional capital known for its horse races and gingerbread. Not far from there, Kunětická Hora Castle rises on an isolated hill. Your next landing will be in Vysoké Mýto (LKVM), and soon after, we will see Litomyšl Chateau, another UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most notable Renaissance chateaux in the Czech Republic, famed for its sgraffito decorations. The section ends with a landing at Třebárov (LKMK) (likely close to Moravská Třebová). The flight is 260 miles long with 8 landings. Most GA single-engine and twin aircraft are suitable. I will be in the A2A Aerostar. Please fly what you like. The flight plans are here. Additional scenery: Czech GA Revival Please set your Simulator for a 10 am departure. We try real weather.
