The Czech Republic - Part Two

Featured Replies

We continue our flights in the Czech Republic.

For this flight, we depart from Pardubice (LKPD), the regional capital known for its horse races and gingerbread. Not far from there, Kunětická Hora Castle rises on an isolated hill. Our first landing will be in Vysoké Mýto (LKVM), and soon after, we will see Litomyšl Chateau, another UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most notable Renaissance chateaux in the Czech Republic, famed for its sgraffito decorations. The section ends with a landing at Třebárov (LKMK).

We now enter the Hanušovice Highlands and land at Sumperk (LKSU) and Niklasdorf (LKMI). Next, we arrive at Krnov (LKKR) in the Moravian-Silesian district. The first POI here is Bouzov Castle, an impressive Neo-Gothic structure frequently used as a film location. We then fly over the gardens of Kroměříž, which, along with the Archbishop’s Chateau, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The complex consists of the Baroque Flower Garden and the English-style Lower Garden. We land in Kroměříž (LKKM) and then in Kunovice (LKKU), known for its aviation tradition with four aircraft manufacturers at the airport: Czech Sport Aircraft, Evektor-Aerotechnik, Let Kunovice, and Bristell by BRM AERO.

Next, we fly to the country’s second-largest city, Brno (LKTB), where another landing awaits. After departing Brno, we make a little detour into the Upper Svratka Highlands. Our next POI is the Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk atop Zelená Hora, an outstanding example of Baroque Gothic style.

After landing in Jihlava (LKJI), a town on the Bohemian-Moravian border, and the stop in Jindřichův Hradec (LKJH), we approach the final major POI: Hluboká Chateau (Frauenberg). This Neo-Gothic fairy-tale castle is one of the most visited in the Czech Republic. This flight ends with the final landing in Strunkovice (LKSR) in South Bohemia.

The flight is 365 miles long with 10 landings. We will need more than one flight for this trip. I will be in the A2A Comanche. Please fly what you like.

The flight plans are here.

Time and weather:

We try real weather. I recommend setting the time back to October 5 for a nicer autumn look at the scenery. Let us depart at 11 am local.
