June 17, 200322 yr Thanks John,As for the VC views, everything that you should see from the cockpit will be there, but due to model size a good bit of any other objects will be culled to offer better flight performance.Oh Bill, relative to your comment of "active" gauges in exterior views, this motivated me to go back and revise the VC panel based on some of your previous comments. All gauges now have their own plane, as well as radio panel, engine, etc. These are placed just in front of the panel. By doing this I have found I can reduce the pixel size considerably relative to the plane size, and still retain sharp images, and vastly smoother overall performance of the aircraft. When running all gauges on one panel and using pixel size of 1024 x 1024, I found there was a drastic effect on the overall smoothness when in the VC. Below is a pic of a conceptual test of the new gauges on a plane of 128 x 128, with pixel size of 256 x 256. Now I need to figure out how to get the illumination bmp set up again, inside and out. And yes, I do have "active" gauges in the exterior views. Still need a bit of work still, but very encouraging.Cheers All!!Bob C.
June 17, 200322 yr Don't get too carried away with this though! :)Keep in mind that FSPanel Studio has a limit of 19 Vcockpit sections that it'll support... :(You can also "group" sets of individual gauge polys and lasso 'em all in one shot with the UVW mapping. June 17, 200322 yr Thanks as always Bill for the feedback. That is just what I am going for. The best compromise that will offer a reasonably sharp gauge and smooth flight performance. It was when I was investigating the panel config for the F-1 Cessna 421 that I noticed their multiple VC layout and lower pixel resolution. Flying the 421 in the VC is very smooth and I wanted the same for the Legacy. Having a limited amount of experience in panel building, I tried to logically figure out how they achieved this, and remembering some of your comments in other posts, I put two and two together. The above test to see if the multiple planes had a positive impact was successful. Only problem I found was the HSI compass ring will vanish every once in a while. Seems like the gauges update at a slower rate, and I wonder if this is the cause. I will be experimenting in different configurations, hoping the impact is minimal. Current number of planes is fourteen. Long and the short of it, boy it is nice being able to sit in the VC while in the landing pattern, scanning the views, making your turns, and everything is smooth!RegardsBob C.

The more Vcockpit sections, the slower the gauge refresh rate...If I were going to use this technique, I think I'd limit the individual polys/gauges to just the primary instruments (the so-called "T" instruments.
