June 5, 200421 yr Hello:Is it possible to design a model cruise ship? With gmax features? It would be neat to be able to sail on a large cruise ship throughout the FS world. Fausto
June 5, 200421 yr Moderator >Hello:>>Is it possible to design a model cruise ship? With gmax>features? It would be neat to be able to sail on a large>cruise ship throughout the FS world. Considering the number of PT boats, Coast Guard Cutters, aircraft carriers and so on which have been released already, I see no reason why the Queen Mary II or Queen Elizabeth II or perhaps one of the Carnival Cruise Line ships couldn't be created.Of course, a three day trans-atlantic voyage might get boring really, really fast! :) I mean, hour after hour of watching the ship bob up and down in the gentle swell would be about as exciting as watching paint dry...OTOH, cruising around the Med in a small pax cruise ship might be fun! June 7, 200421 yr Give me the Queen Mary 2, Bill, and I'll be a happy camper! :-)Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...RUM_LOUF_A2.jpg
June 7, 200421 yr yes its possible, the "way of design" is same as for aircrafts. you can use the animation tags to animate parts of the ship like boat-davids, radars, cranes and on warships the different guns. lights, enginesmoke and "virtual bridges" are also possible. the biggest problem is the "flight dynamics" (.air) files. the idea behind is that your "ship" is nothinmg else but a giant flying boat without wings. but the creation of such an fde isnt simple, ive never managed to write a working fde for my ships (some ww1 and ww2 warships) and had to use a existing fde from the internet (thats why i never released them). tom
June 12, 200421 yr Well, i've had this one for a while now:It's the RMS Mauretania. Didn't plan on finishing it, really. It's been put in FS, but some airfile issues have kept me from going anywhere yet. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/79810.jpg
June 24, 200421 yr Hi:Bill: I don't like to cruise in the open waters of the Atlantic. I like to cruise throughout the Bahamas, Tahiti, Hawaii, etc... There is much more scenery and beautiful waters.Lou: You just like cruise ships or are you a cruiser yourself?Christopher: Your ship looks awesome. Hope you can fix the airfile problem and upload your ship soon.It would be neat to see larger ships such as Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas and Princess's Grand Princess in FS;not static. Just imagine? A cruise ship model with a complete full interior, cabins, suites, casino, dining room, lounge, bridge, etc... to be used with active camera. Now, that would be really really neat. Might as well throw in the virtual margaritas... :)Do the FS design programs even allow such a detailed model to be designed and produced? I always hear something about polys being a problem.Fausto
June 25, 200421 yr That would be cool, instead of a virtual cabin you could see the suites, bridge, decks, pools, and everything else. But with the amount of polygons their would be a way too much loss in framerates. Oh well, maybe someday... :)
