Where to start with 3D model for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi All,Sorry if this a total groan 'not that question again' but I'm keen to design my first 3D model for FSX. Which 3D software is recommended and where should I be looking for tips?I could probably do the basic model and textures for the outside, is it usually easy to get people colaborating on flight dynamics and cockpits?Like I say, sorry if it is the same old question again but I'm totally new to this and would appreciate a bit of help. Thanks,Gemma

Assuming you own FSX Deluxe version, why not start by installing the FSX SDK from DVD #1, then downloading and installing the FSX SDK SP1 from http://fsinsider.com.After installation, you can then read the Modeling portion of the SDK, wherein the installation and use of the FREE GMax v1.2 (included) 3d modeling program is described? For lots of tips and tutorials, there are plethora websites around covering the gaumut from military, general aviation to commercial tube-liners.My suggestion for a "first stop" would be http://freeflightdesign.com for the "Tips," "Tutorial," and forum sections.Further, the "Search" function here works quite well for specific questions... ;)

Ta Bill,I did try a search but didn't know quite where to start with it all! I have GMAX 1.2 installed, but didn't even realise the FSX SDK was on the FSK Deluxe disc, nor that GMAX was the way to go for FSX! Thanks for the pointers, I'll shall only come back when I get completely stuck with my first effort ;0)Ta again,Gemma

Without the exporter/compiler, GMax is pretty useless for FS modeling... ;)
